2024-25 Roster thread

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
One would assume they can have it happen tomorrow, since they can go up and down at will.

I dunno if they’ll bother, it was just a thought exercise to give the San Diego fans something to reward them after the Ducks have stolen most of the guys that you’d expect to have played there the last 2 years.

I could see it for Zell, make up for some of the games he's sat out and the Gulls get a second dynamic Dman for the playoffs.

The org could have supplemented the Gulls more more talented career AHL'ers to begin with if they were gonna make the NHL their development level for the upper echelon prospects. Acquiring F Bailey and G Husso late into the season is good, but something they should have done before the season started if the org actually cared about pushing for the playoffs.

A couple of our AHL forward prospects should be in the ECHL this season.

Has anyone found Terry's play to be horrid the last couple weeks? so much overcarrying with the puck - it really puts his teammates out of position and there's been several times we've lost the zone because of it
When the team is playing really poorly and generating no offense, he goes into hero mode. And we've had a couple of real stinkers.

For his part, Vatrano/Strome were also ass last game

Listened to the Verbeek Podcast this morning. Nothing too interesting to be honest roster-wise. Would’ve been nice if Hazy or Alexis had asked him his thoughts about Leo, Cutter, Zegs, Mctavish etc. not sure he referenced any of them even once. Was more focused on dmen.

I think it's risky for the Gulls (for the chemistry reason you mention) but potentially even worse for the Ducks.
To me as a player there would be a huge difference between "okay you had a good run but you're not legitimate contenders yet, we're selling Dumo" and "okay you had a good run but you're not legitimate contenders yet, so we're going to gut the roster and see if those of you we can't send down can end the season on a 13-game losing streak again".
Although, since the wins / losses don’t matter because we are saved by elite goaltending and no one is improving. Wouldn’t it be better to lose all 19 games right now that are left and get a top 5 pick again.

Like we are hip, we know only Jackson LaCombe has improved this year. Forcing Ross Johnston to play some PP1 time might be good for the room.

I think since advanced stats say we are not a good team yet, gaining whatever competitive advantage we can via draft lottery balls is much better than rewarding the guys for playing to the standard set by MGMT at least at a compete level standard!

Here's a recent Player Card rating (the Athletic) on Mar 9th. I still have data from Jan 15th to compare it with. Plus, it's heat check to see if I can add images after the HF update.

Damn, did LaCombe and Mac are the only youths that have taken some big jumps in this player rating between Jan and Mar. For LaCombe, it was improvement in offense and defense, but his defense is what catapulted him to higher heights as well as dragged Gudas along with him. With Mac, it was mostly his offense that improved and slightly his defense.

Our youth defensive play has suffered with Minty and Zell. Helleson isn't included in the rating, but he will be in the next update in April. But I do have his Stat Card player card, which the Athletic does use as one of it's many sources of metrics.
