I wish when people remembered the Bullies they remembered the:

Team built around the draft (9/20 players drafted, including 1C, 1D and best winger): At a time when NHL teams in general kind of half-assed the draft...
Team who built around their drafted core by exploiting market inefficiencies...
Super innovative front office and coaching staff
4 line, 3 pairing team who were the deepest team in the league with ELEVEN forwards who had managed 20 goal seasons

Because that is how they won, not by having half a team of roll players and being tougher than everyone...

They were probably the deepest team in the league, built like the Panthers last season in a lot of ways, who also had crazy top-end talent including one of the best C's in history, a 1C at 2C, a HHoF winger, one of the best scorers of his generation, and FOUR top pairing Dmen... alongside one of the best ~5 goalies in history at his peak.
Poile and Allen had a strategy that today's Flyers should emulate. Be solid up the middle from the back end out. In their expansion draft they looked for young goalies (Favell and Parent) that were blocked in their system as well as defensemen that were a bit undervalued. Draft forwards.
Of course the club had a HC in Shero who had foresight and creativity. That mattered a lot and is something that the Flyers of today seriously lack. No club can succeed in the future when they are slogging around in the mire of the past.

I have to take your word that is actually what it says, because I don't have a subscription.

Was it reported anywhere else?

The rumored trade was a St Louis D with an NTC + 1 for Sanheim + Hayes. We later found out it was Krug. We never found out if it was 25 or 29.

But also, feel free to say that we don’t know if that was the whole story because his Laughton bullshit is absurd and I’m sick of it. If it applies to Laughton, it applies to everything.

I think that's where the Laughton confusion came in, they discussed multiple packages with St Louis, so the actual details are unknown. But all reports had a 1st coming back in a Sanheim deal, and the Flyers had to take Krug for cap reasons. Other than that, who knows?

But I remain skeptical that anyone not on acid would offer a 1st and 2nd for Laughton.

Fight me, Jojo! :cf:

I'm about 85% sure he completely fabricated the part about the first, I don't remember ever hearing that was part of the deal.

We should all just respond to every point we don't like by saying it was spilt milk. The arguing becomes so much easier that way.
Funny how that works. Completely fabricates a 1st coming back with Krug, but refuses to believe what Laughton would have brought back, confirmed by actual insiders, had he been traded...

No, sir. Life is too short. I will laugh at you while buying the first round though.

We all have topics where we've left reasonability behind. Today would be a great day for a tragic phlebotomy accident to befall Avril Lavigne for example. As long as it's dopey stuff like hockey, we're always good.

I do have a subscription, and this is what it says:

Kevin Hayes saw a report over the weekend that the Flyers were on the verge of trading him to the Blues. His Philadelphia teammate, defenseman Travis Sanheim, was reportedly part of the deal, too.

“I was texting with Sandy a little bit,” Hayes told The Athletic on Tuesday. “We heard some rumors. We heard it was done, and then it wasn’t done, then it was done, and it wasn’t done.”

The reason the trade hadn’t been finalized, according to league sources, was that the Blues were planning to send defenseman Torey Krug to the Flyers in return, along with a first-round pick in this year’s draft.

The article is by Jeremy Rutherford, a Blues beat who used to work for the STL Post Dispatch before moving to the Athletic. My understanding is that he's fairly reliable.

There are other sources, but the other main one I remember is Seravalli, who, well, let's listen to Jeremy Rutherford.

Aahhh, so we were also dumping Hayes in that rumoured deal with St. Louis, that makes sense. The 1st was probably because we weren't retaining on Hayes.
Krug was $6M, Hayes was $7M. St Louis had to dump cap to take on Sanheim and Hayes.
So the 1st was for Sanheim, Krug was the price of dumping Hayes.
We retained half and got a 6th back for Hayes.
A year later St Louis included a 2nd rd pick for the Pens to take half his contract.

He was just stating the obvious.
Center and Defense were the two priorities last draft and will be this draft.
They'll win all BPA ties.
But since both were areas of need, it's more likely they simply like Jett.
Thanks for your reply, dead. I'm going to disagree with you and believe that this pulls back the nearly transparent curtain on how much sway Tortorella has within the FO. They chose a centre known for his two-way play over the more-talented defenseman (the other position of need), which fits Tortorella's MO to a T ... or C.

Such a shame to think that the FO's strategy would be to build a roster based on the demands of a coach who won't likely be here in 3 years, based on his career shelf life.

Yes, it took a 2nd to dump Hayes at 50%. How much do you think the cost to dump him at full value + an extra year of the contract was?

We can’t forget about the little gem called JVR. Not resigning him(for good reason), not trading him, just letting his contract expire. Abysmal asset management.
You forgot about trading him as a young asset whose value was way down for all 6'2" 225 lbs of Luke Schenn.

With the justification that he a small boi
Yep. 6' 186 lbs at 18 years of age. What a hobbit!

Friedman says Chicago is a likely destination for Frost

With Bedard moved to wing last game (Not sure if it will be permanent, he really needs to work on his faceoff game.. I hope they dont give up on him at C in just his 2nd season and our coach is a moron)

The Hawks C situation looks like this

Dickinson
Foligno
Donato
Reichel

Nazar playing great in AHL but sounds like Hawks want him to spend more time down there and not rush him onto this mess of a team. Dach was moved to wing fulltime in Rockford and Boisvert, Greene, Thompson and Moore are likely years away from being options in NHL

So yeah, please send Frost to Chicago

I think they choose Jett based on potential upside, they probably saw Buium more as a finished product.
