I haven't looked it up, but how many teams have won the Cup without at least one top 5 pick in the past 20 years?

Boston had Seguin, but I get that he wasn't the main cog.

Boston also had Horton who didn’t play in the finals, but he was a big part of them getting there.

I think the 08 wings are the only other team.

Of course they are, everyone wants them. But the Flyers actively choose the routes least likely to acquire said players.

For them it's a feature, not a bug.

People obsess on stars and elite scorers, but they are pretty rare.
Looking at ES scoring the last two season (PP is more of a unit than player thang).
Total scoring over two years illustrates not only who can score, but who can stay on the ice.

The top four are special.
30 forwards scoring 100+.
28 forwards scoring 90-99
35 forwards scoring 80-89.

If you can't land a 100+ guy, next best thing is 5 or more 80+ and 90+ guys.
So key going forward is guys like Brink, Frost, Foerster and eventually Luchanko stepping up.
Barkey is a long shot maybe Ciernak, no one else with this kind of scoring potential.

Sanehim (56) is the only scoring threat on defense
York, Drysdale need to step up.

ES. PP scoring is more of a unit thing, being on the 1st v 2nd v off the PP can be arbitrary.
Bergeron good example, got 20+ PP points his 2nd and 3rd season, then off the PP for most of his career.

PP is more a mirror image of the PK, that is, net scoring on STs is what matters.
A great PP v PK may change strategy to some extent (a great PK allows you to be more aggressive in terms of borderline play) but in the end, want to score more than you allow.
However, PP scoring is more obvious than great PK play.

Most top ES scorers are good PP scorers for obvious reasons, but you can get 20+ points if you're the 5th wheel on a top PP without being that good of a scorer.

I think I might be the only one here that actually understands your posts for what you put them out their as. Although I will admit you word things a certain way in my opinion to get people riled up sometimes, which I kind of understand, Don't always agree with it but I think I understand.

Johnson would substitute, but he's a RHD, so Sanheim to LHD?

Short-term, Seeler seems to have a pinched nerve in his knee.
