2024-25 Roster…too soon?

There has been nothing I’ve seen out of Dach so far to suggest he can play C.

Bedard and Nazar should also be flipped.

The Donato line should be the second line on paper, but as long as they get more minutes than that line I guess it doesn’t matter.

be pretty funny if they have slaggert bedard and nazar all split first line faceoffs just for the hell of it.

I like that defense honestly.

Heard chances were 12-2 in favour of Hawks with EDM on the ice in a recent game. Forget if it was VGK or Ducks game

Kaiser was great last game. Murphy had his best couple games of the year the end of this road trip.

Murphy and Martinez with a kid each. Brodie in the press box. Like Vlasic with Crevier.

Roll this down the stretch and see what we have going forward.

Del Mastro has been my favorite of the d prospects (personal like, not ability wise necessarily), so it's great to see him do so well.

Who was saying the whole years his development has taken a step back, or that it stalled?

No idea but haven’t the Hogs been a tire fire since losing Soronsen

@Hawkaholic and @WarriorofTime were the two really trying to drive that narrative over the offseason. Yeah I didn’t forget.
I dont recall saying too much about him in the offseason, other than I think some people are a little too high on him. He had taken a step back this season, he didn't make the team out of camp, and hasn't had a great season in Rockford. Glad to see he is doing well in this stint, but it's still really early. I hope he keeps it up and proves me wrong.

Honestly, I think Luke was just obsessed with Allan because he reminded him so much of himself. I seem to recall like EDM, Slaggert and Dach only got one preseason game before being sent down. They weren’t even given a chance.

But I think the Rockford season was just stats wise because he no longer was getting powerplay time plus he was babysitting Lev. So watching the games fully I’m guessing would paint a different picture than the stats.

That is true, I still think his upside is limited, but I thought the same of Vlasic. Some guys just figure it out and break through at some point. I would like nothing more than for him to become a staple in our top 4. It's not like i'm Musto and hate a guy forever just because I didn't think he was a great prospect.

I don't remember ever saying that Del Mastro has stalled, most I can remember saying is that Allan had a much better training camp (not mentioning Del Mastro by name but by implication) as far as winning a roster spot.

I’d say Allan was the best of the D prospects in camp. He won a spot cleanly.
Here is what I had to say about Del Mastro in May of 2024 which was the 'offseason' for the Hawks.

Del Mastro is the hidden gem of the Hawks system. Reality is nobody outside a team's fanbase gives a f*ck about someone that wasn't a high pick until they are in the NHL and performing there, but everything with Del Mastro screams "COVID non-season under-scouted" more than anything else given the last 3 seasons.
then in July I said

All Del Mastro has done since being drafted is be consistently awesome. People are too obsessed with draft pedigree for players three years out of their draft.

If anyone is driving an anti-Del Mastro narrative around this sub-board, I don't think it's me.

I may have been mistaken in that regard, so I apologize!

I know it's just 2 games but I really would like to see how this exact lineup plays together for a longer stretch. Every line has some speed and some grit. Maybe Foligno could fill in for Donato once he gets traded and ideally, I'd like Dickinson to fill in for Foligno in that 3C role and I'd be cool scratching Foligno (I know that would never happen)

I'm cool with putting Kurashev on waivers and letting him help Rockford score some goals.

Leave the D pairings as is.

The team finally looks like they're having fun. It'll be interesting to see what happens with some of the college kids and whose spots in the lineup they may take (James, Greene, Thompson, Moore, Rinzel)

there has been progress probably end up with 10 more points than last year and about 1/2 of the goal differential. lets see what we do over the next 53 hours and then in the draft and UFA. other then bedard being frustrated and not scoring the rest of the year is about what I thought. Masarek was way better last year so if he plays that way this year we probably have another 6 or so points. Nazar Crev allen Del M kaiser Soda and at times reichel have all look good. with only 3 blue chips prospects in this draft I would say finishing 2nd is way better then 4-5 worse. difference would be schafer, misa, hagens, Vs martone, eklund frondell.

3/4 of the season in the books.

Hawks had a -93 goal differential after 61 games during the 2023-24 season

Hawks have a -45 goal differential after 61 games during the 2024-25 season

2023-24
GF124 GA 217

2024-25
GF168 GA212

Still around the same goals against but they added goals in the off-season with signings/trades so it makes sense. Their team defense still sucks.

San Jose has better forwards, D is just as bad.
D take a lot longer to grow into the league San Jose will be bad for longer as they wait on Dickinson and co to not only get into the league but become good players for them. Lev, Rinzel, KK, Allan, EDM are all a lot further along than pretty much any San Jose dman besides Schaefer should they potentially get him in the draft this year.

Had Knight and Soda been on this team all year instead of it being Soda and Mrazek odds are we have a drastically lower GA as well already as I honestly think Mrazek might be out of the league and retiring since he never looked the same after that surgery.

Yep.

Dickinson is having a good season, but his situation isn't too dissimilar to what Korchinski's was during his D+1 season. Left shot D with decent size and skating who is putting up points in the CHL. Not old enough for the AHL next year, so will have to either play another year in the CHL (hardly developing) or spend that time just trying to survive NHL minutes. I think it's funny when he's touted by many on HF as that club's future 1D at this early stage of his development.

They have no Lev. No Rinzel. No Vlasic. They have Mukhamadullin (had to look up that spelling) who is having a rough season in the AHL as a 23yo. They've also got Cagnoni who is putting up points, but is only 5ft9 (maybe 5ft10 these days). Most guys that size don't end up like Quinn Hughes or Lane Hutson. Sharks have jack shit on the right side in their system; and RHDs are some of the hardest pieces to acquire. There is no RHD in this draft either that would likely make a big impact for them there.

They beat us with regards to forwards. We've closed the gap, and maybe even surpassed them, in goal with knight. And our defense of the future is way more impressive than what few pieces they have there.
