2024-25 Roster…too soon?

Not even remotely close to the worst in Hawks history.

Phil Esposito, Ken Hodge, Fred Stanfield to Boston for Gilles Marotte, Pit Martin, and Jack Norris. Might well be the worst trade in NHL history.
They traded for a goalie that didnt pan out. What saved the franchise was Montreal had 3 goalies and could only keep two so we ended up with Tony O.

Marotte was probably who they were targeting, but Espo was clearly the best player in the trade at the time. Wirtz traded Hull’s center, some say out of spite.

Tony O was buried in the minors. Claimed on waivers. Canadiens during those years had an embarrassment of riches.

Supposedly Phil Esposito was traded when Tommy Ivan got mad at him for being happy go lucky after Hawks were eliminated from playoffs. Weird imagining Hawks teams have Espo, Hull, and Mikita all in their primes.

Flyers trading younger prospects who need change of scenery,,,naaaah why would our GM be interested
What would we have traded?

Kuzmenko is a high risk, potentially high reward type player, I'm not sure who fits that bill on our team. Deal would have also included someone like Reichel (for Pelltier), plus our own 2nd (33rd overall). Is that really worth the gamble that Farabee is the 50pt player he was last year, and Frost to become anything but replacement level? I don't think so.

There's a potential thing to be looked at which is a distinct possibility that not every team will have the revenue to spend to a $113 million cap.

Interesting point, and likely true. It's hard to see some team like Ottawa, Columbus, and probably others spending that much.

I've been all aboard the Marner/Rantanen train since day 1, and this only further emphasizes why this would be the FA to make a big splash.

I heard it was that he got drunk and told the GM at the time that the Hawks had a great team but wouldn't win anything because the GM was going to screw it up. Then he got traded.

Biggest thing is the contracts that expire the latest are going to be really good for the next little run here. Imagine having Jack Hughes at 7 % with three years left on his deal and in his prime.

Yea we actually are going to get boned on the Bedard contract now. Not as bad as Kaprizov Eichel or McDavid Makar tho

it was reported that some teams will not spend to the cap. The big markets drive up wth REV so small markets would lose money spending to those levels. I will saw the last chance to get a cap dump is this year. also this makes it less likely big UFA move. that 8 year is why.

It's basically more imperative than ever that Bedard sign for 8 years. 2026-27 through 2033-34. Need to get at least a few years when all the existing contracts have already flipped over and been re-upped. The way Matthews did his two contracts was a disaster for the Leafs for this reason. Those last five or six years of Bedard's next contract is Hawks best chance at a realistic Stanley Cup window I think.

A guy who is very hard on the team that sucked and pissed at teammates they didn't play hard and or be competitive... but on a team not anywhere close to good, it can just backfire and be a drain on the team.

O'Reilly was like that on the young Eichel Sabers. Then he was saying things like he lost the love to play the game. He was a bad presence for a team coming out of a tank. I think JT would be too.
O'Reilly had huge issues in Buffalo outside of hockey.

I would of done that deal for Donato and Reichel if they wanted. People here were wanting Frost for about a whole year now

How in the hell do you know Kyle wasn't trying to put something together?
When has Davidson acquired young talent? I cannot recall one young upside play. He's great at getting undervalued veterans for picks but that seems to be his only bread & butter.
