Funny that EdM being re-caljed doesn't merit his own thread ...bit only mentioned in this thread on prospects i(n General)...meanwhile Soeelacy merits 2 threads alone...1 for his signing the EKC and the other his drFt thread..

Of note..both Kj and Lev are Negative...EdM still a +4i Rockford before recall despite less offense statscthiscseason(but given Kj and Kev ,he is ina differentvroke there this sesson.
Anyway...yes EdM is not a great skater.. but has more effective physical pkay..actualky finishing checks into the boards and not losing alk the puck battles and does crease clearing (vs. Fails by $9.5 ,Brodie,Kaiser etc i these areas.. So a needed addition..Hopefully also capable of actualky clearing g the puck out of the d-zo e without taking 3 tries at it ...all failing like ...
Well, you know the culprits)..

I hope this spells the end for Vrodie..And Kaiser still loses to many physical battles behind our netvand at the crease.. shoukd dump hom too.
Unfortunately $9.5 is not now or ever worth $9.5or even $7.5..I still think he woukd best fit up frontvas a pisrr winger...but Hawks have nobody else.. plus his cobtract and NMC make trading him a problem unless he waives the NMC and unless we take back a dump contract back plus retain...Still if $9.5 van justnpkay like $4.5 instead of likev95cents,we probably can live with meh Seth Jones vs. Horribly StinkyvSeth Jones.

All I ask of EdMis.play simple
.play physical.stop tge attacks on the boards by finish checks and clearing out the opps at our net front ..abd clear tgevoycj first tine it touches his stick, not the 3rd orv4th attempt to clear like so many of our D do now except zvlsdic.

Fine, but for the love of all that is holy bench Brodie.
Martinez is not quite there in the Brodie space but it's close. That 2nd goal from the Carolina game was the 2nd tell. And pairing Martinez and Brodie is like handing an arsonist matches and a fully loaded gasoline cannister.

And this...

I just don't think Jones contract is negative at this point due to cap hit. Cap is going up and with escrow recently being completely removed, speculation is it could push as high as 95 million this Summer. Seth Jones at 10% of the cap is not crazy. RHD that can eat minutes are simply not THAT common. Jones is 4th in minutes per game only behind Makar, Faber, & Seider...With Paayko, Anderson, Dobson, Carlson, McAvoy, & Fox rounding out the top 10. Next 10 are Letang, Bouchard, Montour, Ekblad, Weeger, Hronek, Faulk, Karlsson, Pietrangelo, Pulock. Next 10 are Pionk, CECI, Burns, DeMelo, Durzi, Marino, Pesce, Jensen, Larsson, Spurgeon. That is the top 30 RHD for minutes per game or roughly the #1RHD's in the NHL. Jones probably is not a top 10 guy, but in the mix with the next 10 and better than most of the bottom 10.

I am not retaining on Jones for 5 more years without getting premium assets (aka not some kind of dump him to move on deal). I'll take back a moderately bad deal for a season or two....like a Josh Manson from Colorado to make a good deal and get a good asset back. Colorado is a poor fit as the only prospects I would want to add are Ritchie (and I can't see him being in play).

If Jones held his play for two years and come 2026-27 TDL was at $9.5 million for 3.5 years at 32 years old, teams would be lining up to get that with where cap will be then. Just wait for some $13 million, $14 million, $15 million AAV defensemen dominoes to fall.

There’s no way this doesn’t involve retention. But if the retention is 2.5 per year, that still frees up 7M per through 2030. The retention is what leads to mutual ascent.

Yeah if they can offload him and retain ~2.5 per, you gotta do it if you can in my opinion.

Time will tell I guess.

I think people around here really underestimate SJ's value and how bad some NHL GMs are. As bad as he's been he would still be on pace for 50+ points over an 82-game schedule while having to return from missing a few weeks. An NHL GM will be drooling at the high of adding offense and a RD at the same time.

This year also seems to be shaping up to be a pretty weak TDL for buyers. Pretty much only Buffalo is out of the mix for the 8 seed at this point in the entire eastern conference.

But all that said, I still have a hard time seeing him being dealt midseason.
