Hawks need what like $10 million to hit the projected cap floor next year without any further trades involving anyone signed beyond this season? 10 signed forwards on currently active NHL roster, 3 of which are on ELCs and two of which are essentially ELC (Reichel $1.2 and Slaggert $0.9). Only RFA is Kurashev (see ya). 7 signed defensemen on currenly active roster, two on ELCs with some more ELCs potentially in the mix. Kaiser and Crevier are RFAs. Two signed Goalies plus Soderblom as RFA.
With all those ELCs, it's an interesting question of how the Hawks would even be able to hit the Floor if they traded Jones. There aren't that many spots to plug in overpaid short-term veterans. It's not an "issue" so to speak the following year, once they extend Bedard and others will follow (Nazar, Dach, Allan, Del Mastro, Korchinski are all on the same RFA timetable).
