You never know

We got that shitstain Nylander for a promising 19 yr old Joker

Plus, Jackets GM didn't draft him and if there is a prospect out there, he really likes he may move Jiricek without issue to get him
I don't think a good trade is likely unless it's in a bigger deal as mentioned above.

With the benefit of hindsight, I think we can say only fans thought Joker was promising.

Looks like both teams knew they weren't going to have a place for either player in the near future at the time of the trade.

It's highly, highly unlikely the best offer they can get would be EDM. If they were interested

Nylander was a 2016 top 10 pick the year prior to Jokiharju was a late first in the 2017 draft. That was a fair deal for both sides at the time that wasn't exactly a home run for either side. Sure, Jokiharju is still playing, but he's incredibly replaceable.

? Joker has been a mainstay in Buffalos lineup since the trade.

He's a very replaceable player.

And that's not even to say he's a bad player. He just doesn't bring anything that's all that hard to replace if you did move on from him. He's basically like a Maatta.
Never said he wasn't. But he's had a place in the Buffalo lineup since the trade, unlike what that other poster said.

Yes, he's been there.

I would say best of the bad ideas on the 2nd pair and I'll add that if he's in the top 4 the Tatankas are not going anywhere. He doesn't defend that well and his offensive contributions are minimal. He's protected more than any other dman in the lineup and his possession numbers kind of suck relative to the deployment.

When Buffalo is ready to win a playoff series, he won't be there.

But that's not what you said.

I said I think only fans thought he was promising and both teams knew what they were trading away.

Jokiharju wouldn't have done anything useful in Chicago. I think it's far more likely that the scouts and managers got the evals right.

To be fair, I may have walked on glass to have him replace Megna or Tinordi last year.

No, you said neither team had them in their plans in the near future. Yet here we are 6 years later, and he is still in Buffalos lineup every night, while Nylander has been in the AHL almost ever since.

Buffalos evaluators were right, they got an every day Dman for an AHLer.

As in neither team had intentions of keeping the player they traded away. Buf had lots of wings Hawks had to get a top 4 d and everything else was a waste of time.

Foligno was 1st line last year, Weiss was 1c his last year in Florida, Tinordi played the last 2 years. He's playing poorly in his role on a bad team for 3.1

Hawks do need another RHD in the system but no thanks on a Joker type.

He isn't playing poorly at all. He is a solid bottom pairing dman.

In summer of 19' and every year since, he was not worth keeping on the Hawks roster beyond a space filler. He has 20 sog this year. LR would scratch his a$$ for playing offensively anyway.

It is difficult to argue with the success Buffalo has had.

I promise to never revisit Nylander Joker again after this post.

I don't see the trade as a loss, as it was better to get him out of the way so they could move on to missing on the other prospects, but we'll agree to disagree on his worth. Last word is yours.

He was worth more than an AHLer in return.

The return was bad, but it was said by reporters or Zwasaki the internal view was Joker hit his ceiling already. And wasn't going to improve.

And that's been true. Buffalo fans have wanted him replaced for years. He's never grown to be impactful enough offensively or strong defensively. He's a quick skater with decent passing.

Torontos 2026 2nd essentially still an extension of Jokiharu

Its a bad trade lol I don't understand the spin. Alex Nylander did nothing for us and Joker has played tons of games for Buffalo.
It was a gamble. They lost. It was not a good trade but understandable to me. Not really worth criticism or worrying about. Bottom line it did not change anything at all for the hawks.

Yeah I don't disagree but like looking back we can all say it was bad now. Looking back and saying it still isn't bad is weird.
My perspective is that Joker wouldn't have been a significantly better player for the Hawks than the trash they were playing. With that being the case - it's not a "loss" of a trade. The loss was drafting Joker in the first place. Please note - I'm obviously not saying the trade was a win, just that it was the equivalent of trading gonnorhea for the syphilis.
