Do we think the Avs sign Matt Davis?
Hopefully he had a good enough time at dev camp with us that he wants to come back into this org. But while I think the Avs may have a leg up in the negotiations, there are a lot of other factors at play. No doubt he'll get a lot of offers this spring and there may be a team that just has a better situation for him.

At this point, the Avs don't really have any clear long-term options at G so I could see him looking at that and thinking it's as good a shot as any. I do hope they get him though.

What was the point of using an early 2nd round pick on an overage goalie then?

Surely he should be considered a long-term option.

He is, but there's no guaranteed long-term option where someone has proven themselves to the extent where they've got a spot. Essentially, they've got some irons in the fire, but no ones actually forged anything yet.

We are basically in an even shakier situation with the goalies as we were with the 2Cs, where we were waiting for Jost to establish himself as a 2C, and then we were waiting for Newhook to establish himself as a 2C. Except, the goalies are even less proven.

Davis is the same size as Nabokov so my question to people that have seen Davis play is this:

Does he play bigger in net than Nabokov and George? That is important to me when it comes to playing in the NHL against much better shooters.

I watched Davis a couple of weeks ago. He reminds me a lot of how Lundqvist plays, really deep in the net, but positionally sound. Of course, he doesn't have the same level of talent, but Avs should clearly sign, even if he only becomes a Talbot type of goaler which I think he is capable of becoming.

I was a bit disappointed in Pitner. I was expecting some more talent for a shutdown defenceman, but he was very safe and cautious every time. Every puck was off the glass that Don Cherry would've given him the Norris if he could. It's good and all to see somebody play it safe, but to me, he wasn't doing it because that was his game, he looked like he was playing scared of making a mistake. I just wanted to see more talent from him because he was like a smaller version of Ryan O'Byrne out there and I am not sure that is good enough to make the NHL at this point. He's a freshman though, so I will give him the benefit of the doubt. Fischer didn't play for some reason, not sure if he was scratched or injured. Zeev was awesome, reminds me a lot of Toews, but with a mean streak.

Well if he's a mini-ROB, then off the glass and out might be the only thing he can do with the puck.
