I hate "the 80s" being used to denigrate Gretzky's numbers, it was a much higher scoring environment yet NO ONE came close to his totals over that time frame

Wayne scored 783 more points than the next leading scorer over the course of the decade, he was the best of all time and is not a product of his era, he lapped his era

Mario was better

There's simply no way the Sharks are going to out-tank the Hawks. They're an abomination. We need Nashville, Anaheim, and Montreal to seriously pull it together.

We have a Georgiev

Honestly our best chance of getting bottom 2 is moving Granlund, Kunin, Ceci, and Sturm. Keep Thrun and Rutta and put Muk with Walman.

Celebrini, Granlund, and Walman are too good. Montreal, Anaheim, and Nash are horrifying.

Trade Granny to Nash, they desperately need a playmaking center. Poison pill the deal that if they trade him we get the right to swap 1sts with them.

I really want to keep Granny, but I want a top four pick more.

If Nash can improve, I do think we’re probably worse than Anaheim and MTL, but Nash and Chicago are awful.

I still believe Nashville will win some stupid games to ruin their draft position late in the season on the pure basis of raw talent, but Chicago, Anaheim and Montreal are all legit contenders for last place

My hunch is the Canadiens finish 32nd, their defense is uniquely bad

I still say we're picking top-5 though

We're 7th worst in xGF/60, 3rd worst in xGA/60 and 2nd worst in xGF%, we're firmly in this fight, lol

I keep looking at the 5-on-5 stats and convincing myself that there is no way Nashville is behind us by year's end, then checking the scores and seeing they lost in regulation. It's incredible.

I just took a look and Nashville's 5v5 numbers are mind boggling. They have only scored 38 5v5 goals and are -21.5 goals under expected on Moneypuck. The Sharks have scored 60!

Nashville is shooting 2.5% during 5v5 play. That has to self-correct at some point.

Kakko was scratched. Fourth Period mentions Sharks as one of the possibilities if he’s traded.
This would be perfect. I'm still very big on him, he was too good when drafted to be in the situation he is right now. Change of scenery and a decent chance should give him a good chance to prove everyone wrong. I believe this could be the real steal at the end of the day, if it happens.

What would the goal of acquiring him be? He's bigger and more defensively inclined than some of our wingers, but it's pretty clear he's not gonna live up to being the 2019 #2 overall pick. The only point I can see to getting someone like this is if you're trying to find someone with size and good puck retrieval to play with Smith, but I don't know if either of these guys can play LW and it feels like they've abandoned playing Smith at C for this year.

Feels to me more like a deal that would have made more sense last year than this year. I don't want us investing time trying to squeeze more out of a Kakko when the focus should really be on developing Will Smith who has a much higher ceiling than Kakko is ever going to have.

As a buy low candidate, I certainly wouldn't hate it. More minutes, more PP time probably leads to an uptick on his .5 PPG production. He's 23 and good defensively. If he flourishes here maybe you've added to the core. If not, no worries. He's a LH RW, but Zetts, Kovalenko, Smith, Granlund, and I think Tofolli all play two positions. Shouldn't be hard to fit him in.

Eklund-Celebrini-Kovalenko
Zetts-Granlund-Smith

The goal is to get more young buy low talent to play for the Sharks and see if some of them can find success. I have some great memories of watching young Kakko play, so there is some bias involved.

Yes, Kakko hasn't lived up to his draft position yet... but I feel like he is a great change of scenery type of project.
He was playing great as an 17-18 year old playing against men, I believe he hasn't forgotten how to play if given a different platform. Maybe NYR wasn't the right fit. It happens.
Some achievements before he was drafted:

Yes, sometimes the projected star players bust but at the right price I don't see a reason why not try him out. He is just 23 years old.
