From what I recall, O'Reilly had a strong first pro camp. That means something to me. Too many so called big time prospects ripping it up in junior and then shit the bed when they get exposed to bigger, stronger, faster players and more complicated systems and get overwhelmed, and in some cases, find out their game and skill set is just not applicable to the pros.
He's also pretty young as well. He won't turn 19 until near the end of March. For a kid that age to show a mature pro style game in camp is pretty encouraging.
I've said this before but I think that the Oilers prospect pool is being under appreciated because aside from possibly Savoie they lack that high end marquee name. But unlike a lot of bottom tier teams that need their hot shot prospects to lead the team, the Oilers don't need that. They only need guy to fill worker-bee or complementary roles. Sam O'Reilly for example does not have to be a top six center. A defensively responsible #3C with some offense on an ELC would be a huge plus.
Centers:
O'Reilly #3/4C **
Philp #4C **
Clattenbrurg #4C ?? (more likely a winger)
Wingers:
Savoie Top six RW. **
Roby Jarventie Bottom 6 LW **
Maxim Berezkin Middle six RW/LW *
Shane Lachance Middle six LW *
William Nicholl Middle six LW (Maybe #3C with real luck)
Matvey Petrov #3/4 RW
Connor Clattenburg #4LW
Dalyn Wakely bottom 6 RW
Jacob Perrault middle six RW
Defense:
Beau Akey #2/3RHD **
Paul Fischer #3LHD *
Max Wanner #3RHD Seventh defensman
Luca Munzenberger #3 LHD Seventh defenseman
Goalies:
Olivier Rodrigues #2 *
Sam Jonsson #2
Eemil Vinni #2
** solid possibility to fulfill the role
* reasonable possibility to fulfill the role.
no stars: Could happen with some luck.
Definitely not an exciting prospect pool. But Realistically the Oilers only need about 4-5 guys from this list to simply become NHL'ers over the next 3-5 years. Anything beyond that would be gravy.
