As much as the idiots at Sportsnet want you to believe that Soto contract changed the landscape, offering Ohtani and Soto close to 700M each changed it. If Toronto wasn't in the bidding, then they aren't explicitly saying we have big money but not for Vlad or Bo. Offering Vlad 340M means you are calling him half the player that Soto is.

If you go by career fWAR so far (I've never been a bWAR guy), Vlad has been almost precisely 54% of the player Soto is. 54% of 765/15 is 414M over the same term.

That wouldnt have stopped Vlad from asking for more. He would look at Soto as comparable and use that like every other good agent would. Passan brought up that Bregman's contract of $40M AAV likely played into Vladdy ask for more and that contract come down a few days ago.

This has nothing to do with what the Jays offered Ohtani or Soto, and everything to do with what Ohtani and Soto ended up signing for.

What I still don’t understand is how Ohtani signed for $700 million with heavy deferrals, carrying an actual present day value of just under 500 million…to Soto signing for $765 million with zero deferrals

A difference of over $250 million in just over 1 season is absolute insanity, no wonder Vladdy is shooting for the moon

Imagine the Leafs offered McDavid or Makar a max contract next offseason, Quinn Hughes one the year after then told Matthews they could only do 10 per.

Bregman's AAV with deferrals is 31.7M

He's getting 40M per with a more consistent track record. Vlad asking a reported 45M per based on that is just Passan making up the same kind of horseshit that he does.

Shapiro+Atkins are still to blame for this situation walking Vlad+Bo to FA but this latest situation with Vlad seems like he's asking for way too much and inflated his self worth. In no world is he worth 40+ million a year without heavy deferrals. Ohtani started this but he was actually worth it given how much revenue he generates from Japan to basically pay for his contract plus not all up front, the Soto insanity from the Mets is what screwed the market up and he won't be worth what he got. They have to trade Vlad now and get the distraction gone plus best return possible. I don't care if it's in division to Boston go get Roman Anthony. This all could've been avoided though if they had done what smart teams do and after 2-3 years lock up their own guys for a decade+. I was always on Vlads side but his interview and now insta stuff is not helping him in my eyes. Passan saying he turned down big money means Vlads he wants to be here schtick doesn't really seem sincere with me, but again the Jays front office kicked the can too much and got burnt.

Vlad on insta liking a photoshop of him in a Yankees uniform. Alright man, time to trade you.
This kinda pisses me off.

I have zero problem with the man trying to get his bag. At the end of the day sports is a business after all. Especially with all the stupid money being thrown around by the Mets and Dodgers of the world

But when you say "i'm done negotiating because i don't want distractions" only for you to turn around and do this? How is this not exactly that? Social media is media these days, bud. Anything you do there will be watched. I would assume he knows that.

If this is the game he wants to play this season then trade him. f*** it. If he seriously asked for 12/540 and isn't backing down then even more so because he's straight up not worth that money

Passan doesn't make shit up. He's the best baseball insider in the business unlike guys like Jon Heyman and f***ing Boob Nightengale.

Bregman taking less money and a lower AAV doesn't magically raise Vladdy's ask.

12 years 540M structured as 2M per for 12 years and 43 per for 12 is 27.56M AAV.

Straight up makes him #2 in cash next year (1 with any signing bonus).

Alonzo got 2 yrs @ 30 mil, same position.
Is Vladdy that much better than him .
Bregman is a gold glove 3rd baseman that hits

Vladdy sign with the Mets we will gladly take Alinzo

If that's true than Vladdy is an idiot posting hime in a Yankee uniform .
He is still a child maybe that is what Jays management saw in him

fine by f***ing me,

Id rather have every single one of those guys over matty. And unlike the jays the leafs have no issues in attracting free agents.

If you get them, it's awesome. The Jays struck out twice then did that. Also keep in mind that MLB has no cap so the Jays didn't have to play an either/or game.

The scenario the Jays are facing is missing out on the bigger fish and risking losing their own big fish. Except the Jays have 2 (with Bichette), so it would kinda be like striking out on McDavid and Hughes then offering Matthews and Marner that lower number (which neither would take).

i hear ya look i think shatkins f***ed this but i also think vlad aint worth that much.

Bergman contract contains significant deferrals. The equivalent AAV is closer to $30M. Vlad wants $45M/yr for 13 years which is just way too much.

Bye! Bye!
Ooooooo you are extremely creative. Have fun supporting this dog shit franchise lol. Jays are still my team but until some changes are done with the management team they won’t get many views from me.

Vlad is nowhere worth what he’s seeking. Dude barely cracked 100 RBI’s last season. Didn’t even hit that the two years before last. He’s hit 40hr’s once in his career. He’s a star player no doubt but he’s not worth what he wants.
He should have been resigned years ago is the damn point
