Both teams, and there’d be others that swing into the mix, have top half farm systems, especially the Cubbies who look top 5ish.

Vladdy's the brightest star on the team, and losing him due to managerial incompetence is gonna sting a lot more than coming in 2nd (or 3rd) place on a free agent yet again.
If Toronto could move Vladdy and Bo for what they are actually worth, they could set up a competitive run AND overhaul the system. The issues are 1) Is that a thing? and 2) Do we trust management to target the right guys and the development staff to develop them?
