Blue Jays Discussion: 2024-25 Off-season: The free agent watch begins (and sometimes old baseball radio broadcasts)

They gotta go aggressively at both Santa and Bregman. Maybe even trade Vladdy if you're not gonna sign him, and sign Alonso. Jays need assets! No waiting anymore, if you have to overpay you have to overpay. Even with Hoffman, they were waiting it out. I don't understand what they are trying to do.
I hear what your saying but I'm worried they saddle us with long term dead weight with deals just to do deals to save face.

My dream is we get Sasaki, sign Tanner Scott and then Vlad signs extension. Then hopefully Santander and Bregman fall to us but at a reasonable term. That would be a hell of a team with Bo bouncing back as well.

Not only were we second choice, we were third choice.

Shatkins demise is long overdue.

Those teams are better than we are and may have made him a higher priority while we were spending time waiting on Burnes, so I'm not really concerned about this.

I'm more concerned though that both the Orioles and Braves failed his physical and Phillies chose to take a risk on Romano's health over Hoffman's.

I'd love to know if the Braves were interested in restructuring the deal after his physical because the contract was apparently much different - 5 years for at least $45 million with the plan to have him start. We've already heard the Orioles were at around $40 million and still wanted to sign him after the physical, just for less money.

I agree with you on this. I hope your dream becomes reality somehow.

There’s reasons to dislike Atkins, but I’m not sure the signing of this closer is a sign of poor management. I’d imagine they had similar offers to similar pitchers, as I’m sure many teams do….all the time. There’s what….three similar closers in the same salary and term bracket… and I’m sure many teams had similar offers to all three.
They got one the best available.

What I loved about the championship teams way back when was allllllll the pitching. So many great arms, different profiles and styles.
This existing staff with Sasaki and Scott would be pretty filthy, nasty, awesome great. An exaggeration….but man oh man.
The other likely outcome of a Sasaki dream signing is a Chris Bassitt trade….which might free up cash for other goodies. Assuming Scott’s around 10, that still leaves theoretically 55-60 mil for bats. With Bichette still on the team.
There’s still soooo many options.

Because the Gate 14 guys are friends with certain players on the team, I can't automatically dismiss this, but I also think they might just be trolling Scott Mitchell (translation is "Live pod with Sasaki tonight?").

Your self-esteem is based on the roster moves of a pro sports team you happen to cheer for?

Five events led to increased birth metrics 9(±1) months later and these included the Super Bowl, the 2009 UEFA Champions League, the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the 2016 UEFA Euros and the 2019 Rugby World Cup. Several la Liga soccer matches also had effects. With a few exceptions, major American football, Association football (soccer) and Rugby apex tournaments in Africa, North America, Asia and Europe were associated with increases in the number of babies born and/or in the birth sex ratio 9(±1) months following notable team wins and/or hosting the tournament. Furthermore, unexpected losses by teams from a premier soccer league were associated with a decline in births 9 months on.
