Jays have had a number of significant free agents sign here over the years. Maybe not superstars, but that's the case for most teams.
The Jays are a huge disadvantage, simply because they're the only Canadian team. Americans can stomach coming here for a series or a few in case of AL East teams, but to spend all that time travelling here thru customs 2 or 3 times a week for 6 months is not ideal.

Also the pandemic showed the border can easily get closed and they're stuck here and can't be with their families.

It was very well illustrated with the displeasure the American hockey players showed during covid.

Canadian dollar started dropping like a rock now, and Canadian teams pay the players in USD.

He’s nearing the end, perhaps he’s worried the Astros competitive is closing with the Tucker trade, Bregman likely gone, and Frambler an FA last year.
True eh. They seem to be moving in a different direction. I forgot they made all those changes. But why would the Astros want him other than they need a 3B?

Yeah you know what I'm sorry I came off a little harsh to you my bad, it's just my past experience here with some posters have put me into that state of mind when responding, because they always feel like they're the genius here who knows it all about everything, and your opinion has no merit to what you're saying. Looking at your name I don't believe we have interacted before, so again I'm sorry for coming off like that to yourself.

I don't follow the triple A players, I don't watch games, so I look at stats to get a better understanding of what to expect of a player, and his stats definitely stand out no denying that. Very similar to how I approached Wagner when we acquired him, I went straight to look at his stats down in the minors and his number really stood out to me, and why I was really in favor of calling him up I saw some very good potential there. Obviously not all players can succeed at the next level, it's not for all, but when you see those type of numbers you want to see if they can do it at that next level. I like what I see from Rodens numbers, so I would be very interested to see what he could do at that next level up here.
Hey, thanks for saying that, I appreciate it.

Yeah. You’ve got good eyes, Roden is tracking really well and hasn’t really had any major hiccups or have any real big flaws. Smart offensive player. More over the fence wouldn’t hurt.

Wagner is another one who has a good strike zone and bay to ball skills.

The Jays value that kind of player, and it might be a market inefficiency they’re focused on. Horwitz included.

The tricky part with that offensive profile is that it can be hard to actually put runs up with a bunch of 700 ops guys because it takes 2-3 events to get a run. So, as you know, a thumper or two really helps push the offence.

That’s where I think posters are okay with Horwitz being traded because he doesn’t offer much value aside from his bat - where Gimenez does with his wheels and glove.

As far as the bisons are concerned….keep following them, they might be really exciting this year. Depending what happens with the rounding out of the Jays roster, the bisons could end up with 6 guys who could be ML starters by 2026.

Technically they don’t even NEED a 3B, as they picked up Paredes in the Tucker trade. Speculation is they’d move him to 1st, but he’s a guy I’d be thrilled to have playing the hot corner.

I find this a weird one as the Astros are moving in some young players but fully intent on competing. Arenado offers top defense and a stadium suited to right handed pull hitters. Has to be something else to this.

I wonder if some players still feel strongly about trashcan gate and just don't want to be associated with them.

It's time to come to the realization that the Jays are essentially the Buffalo Sabres of the MLB.

The Buffalo Sabres hold the longest active playoff drought in the NHL. Two months into the current season, they are on the outside looking in again.
Speaking Friday, general manager Kevyn Adams suggested one of the reasons is the team is "not a destination" for marquee players.
"We’re not a destination city right now," Adams said, "Where you’re going to be able to go out and UFAs that are key guys. And I just don't think that's a way to build a sustainable winner."

If you cannot go out and attract marquee talent, and your track record of drafting and developing players is miserable, you're gonna have a bad time.
They’ve made the playoffs in the Bautista era and the play-in game a couple of times in the Flop era. The Sabres haven’t played a meaningful game after the TDL in 20 yrs.

ShiDavidi. Is there anyone more out of the loop than this guy?

Arenado is declining at a George Springer like clip. Considering the extra year on his contract I wouldn't even trade Springer for him.

Arenado's glove is declining along with his bat. He's should be avoided like the plague outside of STL eating major major salary

Can't wait for the yanks to get Alonso and us to trot a buncha trash bats sans vladdy and bo.

I get it you can't attract premier free agents like soto or ohtani. That's more than fine.

But at least f***ing take care of your own premier guys and do something instead of these tacky bullshit signings

Alonso, Santander, a starter and trade for a BP arm and this would still be a decent offseason (better with extension(s) )

Translation: I can hold out for more money and use the Jays as leverage in negotiations so I’m going to take my sweet time.

Yeah, at the risk of being yelled at like that poster who suggested that we should have a deadline on our offer, I think we should probably put a deadline on our offer to prevent a recurrence of last year.

Unless off course all of the other free agents we might be interested in are willing to wait past Xmas too.

Funny part is Giants fans feel the exact same way. They think Burnes/Boras are using the Giants and has no actual interest in joining them

Based on history I’m more inclined to believe he won’t sign with the Jays.
