The article mentions a “well documented” incident with Drury berating Kravtsov in Hartford. I don’t remember this being well documented. Any link to an article documenting this incident well?

Yeah those arent good choices.

I actually think Vally could be a decent front office management. Not that i am advocating for it. But out of former players he seems like he could be successful.
I agree. Out of any former Rangers, Vally would be the one I'd go with. He tells it like it is, and doesn't F around. He won't take any excuses from the players.

On another note, man, this sucks. The Rangers were supposed to be my getaway from the Yanks losing the World Series the way they did, and the Jets being the Jets...

Vincent Trocheck asked to speak because he said he wanted to clear the air about a report that the #NYR’s closed door meeting after the LA loss was called to complain about Drury. He said they did have a meeting but “if we're having a closed door meeting with just the players, I think the last thing that we're gonna do is complain about our general manager.”

Well. The team started to hit more and lose harder after the player meeting. Not that I doubt they didn't talk about Drury.

Yep. And my main issue with Drury is that he had that soft revamp in his hands. He could have traded Mika or let him walk, but instead he fumbled. He doubled down and gave Mika an unmovable contract.
His hands were kinda tied once he didn't trade for Eichel. Could have pushed harder for that trade I guess but remember Eichel's recovery was unknown and the pieces being asked for probably would have included at least one player we all would have been mad to see go at the time (Kakko, Laf).
There were no other good centers available, and Zibanejad followed up that extension with his best years stats wise. At $8.5 mill if he was putting up 70 points like he did last year but wasn't the teams #1 he'd even be pretty good value despite shortcomings (though obviously 5v5 scoring was a big issue), the contract numbers aren't even that bad, it's just his drop in play has been so bad that everything looks horrible in retrospect.

It was broken by the athletic a few years ago. No questions were ever asked about it but everyone pretty much just ran with it as a fact as far as I know. Personally, I think it happened and didnt mind it. 19 year olds need a kick in the ass sometimes. i sure as shit did.

The culture is rotten so when you change the cuture its the change thats wrong and not the rotten culture.
The culture didn't used to be rotten. For the ~10 years preceding the JD/Gorts firings, the culture was very strong.

Say what you will about Sather and his decision making, but his ability to create a cohesive & collaborative culture is one of his super powers and always has been. That has all disappeared overnight.

I know we all like to rag on millionaire players complaining about their work environments, but two counter points:
  1. Even for millionaires, it's not a big leap to say that they'll perform better if in a healthy environment. It's human nature. So many people here are saying that they work in shitty environments and they deal with it, and I believe that. But I also guarantee that if you were put in a better, non-toxic culture, you'd probably do even better.
  2. The team is much more than just the players. Trainers & staff, etc. are hugely important to the team's success. And those people are far from millionaires, and they are being treated really poorly by management.

Some 19 years olds need that. Some 19 years olds don't. Drury's inability to understand what his player needed in that moment and time is a massive indictment of his ability as a manager.

Id argue Kravy needed it considering his conditioning was so bad he couldnt set foot on the ice without getting hurt in his brief NHL stint, and he's now back in the KHL with no NHL offers at age 24. he was also gifted a top 6 spot in 2022 but got hurt on his first shift after Hedman gave him a noogie.

While we are on the subject, I never liked how in his first training camp he got more press for goofing off with Reaves doing fight practice than he did for his play. All this came after whatever altercation he had with drury. It's a business, not fantasy camp.

Yeah knowing this group of leaders, they had a closed door meeting to pick secret santas and then discuss christmas plans.

Then the last thing they did was complain about drury.

Also way to be a leader Kreider and talk to the press.

People that want Kreider to be Captain must really value being the last guy off the ice after a period.

Unfortunately, this is a rudderless ship of fools.

I guess I wouldn't be surprised if the players only meeting involved some amount of "we're focusing too much on front office stuff and it's killing our game we need to focus instead on playing better"

Trochek kinda seems over this bullshit sideshow

Again, I have my disagreements, but anybody who's going to change things around here -- I'm gonna let him cook. I'm tired of it.

We argue over the specifics, but most of the fanbase is pretty much in lockstep on being tired of the way this team plays.
They aren't gonna trade the whole team away though, and any trade drury makes from now on will just make the environment worse with the players who are left. You will never in essence remove the distrust the team has and the general malaise around the team until Drury is gone. I agree, some players need to go, but it can't be Drury making those deals as it's only gonna make things worse in the room. It's the players vs Drury, he either has to make things right with the group or leave, he looks like he wants to do neither.

what are the odds that Vince's contacts for the story are disgruntled former(or maybe current) MSG staff trying to start shit

Part of me wonder if this whole thing is being made bigger than it is and it's closer to a normal breakdown and not about management at all

Is the locker room in lockstep agreement? I'd hardly think so. There is no way every player is not happy that players that are not good are gone. You can like people on a personal level and want nothing to do with them professionally. You can work with an asshole because you know they'll get the job done.

All Drury did was shine the light in the room about who is doing their job and who is not. As soon as that happened, those "leaders" decided to try and turn the team on him.

When you've lost ClownFiesta, you've lost Ranges nation.
Been here a long f***ing time and I’ve been a Rangers fan for 35 years. This is dark ages level of incompetence from the FO. Kakko was my line in the sand. I knew he’d move it was just a matter of when and for what reasons. Would they finally make positive changes that strengthen the team or would they just offload assets while keeping the same philosophy and core mostly intact. I think we have our answer. Like him or not Trouba wasn’t our problem last year and the trade talks got fumbled this summer, can’t blame him for being detached. Kakko was also not our problem and the mismanagement of him from the start is embarrassing. We have veterans on this team who go through long stretches of inefficient play but have protection through NTC’s. It’s disgusting and the only guys we can hold accountable are the Goodrow’s and Kakko’s. It’s backwards as f***.
