The floodgates are presumably open with Soto off the market now.

One is a 2 year deal the other is 5. They need some lumber, period. Both guys are statues with a glove on their hand but can hit the ball. One is 37 the other is 30. Other than 3 years diff in term, they aren't so different. Get one, not both. Find a real 3rd baseman with some thump and a LF with power..:. .... or light it on fire. I dont care but an in between measure hanging on to Vlad and Barbie for the playoff drive that won't happen doesn't make sense. Pick a direction by Christmas. Either support the flimsy core and roll the dice or nuke it.

Goldschmidt is done. Cooked. Washed.

Goldschmidt was borderline unplayable last year. His batting average tumbled like 40-50 points from his career norm. OBP down like 70 points. He went from a guy that posted an OPS+ in the 130s-140s to being sub-100. He posted the most strikeouts of his career. His walk numbers were literally almost halved.

He looks done. If some team wants to sign him cheap to be a bench bat and mentor, cool. But no team with aspirations of anything should be banking a multi-year contract on him doing anything.

If that pitcher isn’t Fried or Burnes then they might as well blow up the team at that point, brother

So what is Santander going to get?

Btw hate to say it but the price for Vlad just went up. He’s going to ask for at least 400 m now next free agency and someone will give him that if he makes it to free agency and he has an ops above .900 again. Inflation is real.

Eh, i wouldn't go that far. The one thing i would be confident on bouncing back would be the starting pitching.

Gun to my head, i'm upgrading the offense over the pitching. If they don't get a bat worth a shit? then yeah, it's over.

Cardinals might blow it up. Could be some options there.
Arenado might be intriguing depending how you feel about what also appears to be the beginning of a significant decline.

Those savant charges aren't exactly glowing and he'll be 34 by time the season starts

The biggest mistake last offseason was letting Chapman leave now they'll overpay for Bregman or take a chance on Arenado...

Hopefully they can get Fried or Burnes...also would take a flyer on Bauer

I don't give a shcmidt. It's an example of a short term fix.

Then sign Alonso and one of Teo/Antander, acquire a real 3rd baseman, and extend Vlad. Trade Bichette or he signs and moves to 2B, shore up the bully and grab a top starter.

Or throw a jug of diesel on it. Go all in or beat it.

We need big talent not big names.

It's not a short term fix if the guy objectively sucked ass though. This is the exact stuff the Jays tried to do to fix their offense already, and it failed spectacularly.

lol, what a weird attitude to take. You can't make a suggestion, be told it's a terrible option then go "lol who cares" while also demanding that the team has to make real improvements.

Goldschmidt is not a fix. he's awful now.

I agree that the offense is the #1 priority if they want to compete next year however I think getting an Ace actually helps with that.

If the Jays sign Fried or Burns then it pushes Rodriguez to the bullpen and allows the Jays to trade their pitching prospects (i.e. Tiedemann/Yesavage/Manoah/Bloss) for a legit bat.

Now that Adames and Soto are off the board, I’m not crazy about any of the other free agents.

I think Brendan Donovan would be more intriguing than Arenado. A Donovan trade IMO would be a better move to address the need in LF than signing any of the top free agent corner OF options remaining. Who knows if the Cardinals go that far though in their fire sale though, as Donovan has 3 seasons of club control left.
