The problem is you committed 100 plus for Gimenez by taking that contract from Cleveland, paying 5 million for Straw who isn't on the 40 man roster, Springer is getting 25 to be a shell of himself, they had zero problem giving guys like turning 13, KK 10... Bassit getting 22?... You either don't make some of those moves or move the money around and you have the money for Vlad. At the end of the day, they have the money regardless. The pockets are as close to as deep as any ownership in the league. The problem is they have burdened themselves with a combination of players who barely move the needle and won't sign the only player fans even remotely care about. Name one player when Vlad is gone that sells tickets, I'll wait...

Also who's jersey are you going to buy this year? I guess Santander is now the face of the franchise?

I'm an optimistic guy by nature but I can see only dark clouds for this franchise for the next few years. It's not like they have a prospect pool loaded and near ready. And I am less than confident that this management group will manage to handle the situation with Vladdy and Bo in a way that will change that forecast. More likely, the team is close enough that they won't trade either believing that they can get both to stay, miss out on the playoffs and don't get either guy signed.

If it's just a straight up bidding war and only the dollars matter, I can't see the Sox beating the Dodgers / Yankees.

Pure incompetence by the FO to let this happen with Guerrero and Bichette. Bo said they've had basically no talks for a extension which is insane if true. just trade Vlad to Boston for Roman Anthony+pieces and let Bichette regain his value to move at the TDL. Also as a GM how do you think your team is going to perform with the cloud of your 2 franchise players leaving after this year for just 2 comp picks...

We can certainly judge that if they were not close at any point in the player and their valuation, that you go and just get your best haul on Bo and Vladdy.. but they are stubbornly trying to 'compete' by burning assets to keep the team aggressively mid.

And guess why they are doing this?
To save their jobs.
To keep fans in the seats.

Driving this franchise off a cliff is what they are doing.

Last year was internal improvement.
This year "Management continuity instead of change"

These guys are going on a decade with this organization now and the way they were talked up we were supposed to be a perennial contender and likely have won a World Series or two in their time by now with the way they build up a franchise's player/prospect pool, and the fact they had one of the best up-and-coming youngsters at their disposal.

These guys have been complete and utter incompetent frauds. On top of that, they have been smarmy and totally unlikeable. What a disaster this has been and become.

To be fair, at some point you probably called Vlad every name in the book and wanted him out of here as well.

But I don’t disagree, Atkins and Shapiro really botched this. Even if Vladdy wanted the moon, than at least trade the guy.

Even without Guerrero's 28.5 million, the Blue Jays have the 5th highest payroll in baseball.

So they decide to nickel and dime their only true star, the only player on the entire team that entices a person to buy a ticket to a Jays game, while having the 5th highest payroll in baseball.

This is a team that has nearly 80 million tied up in 34-year old Gausman, 35-year old Bassett, 30-year old Barrios, and 40-year old Scherzer. But they'll jerk their 25-year old superstar around and watch him walk across the American League east street to the Yankees or Red Sox.

I just don't understand how you can tell fans you are willing to spend money, go in on Soto and Ohtani in back to back years, and then when the guy who actually wants to be Jay is scheduled for his pay day they start pinching pennies.

Not sure why you sign Santander if you're about to lose Vlad. No way you let Vlad walks for nothing so he'll be traded but no team will give the Jays an equivalent player they'll get quality prospects who are not ready.
