They are assuming it is Taylor Ward, but what if it is Trout? The Yankees could trade for him and combine him with Stanton as the most brittle duo in MLB history

I'd be surprised if Elias and the O's are willing to outbid every other team for Burnes. Both due to how much weight they put into advanced stats and because they'll be competing with some very deep pocketed teams that just lost out on Soto.

I also have a theory that McCann and Burnes go to the same team. Burnes used him as his personal catcher last year and the O's signed Gary Sanchez to backup Adley.

And they're reporedly not one of the most aggressive teams for Crochet. They don't have the prospect capital that they used to. The Red Sox are reportedly after him too, and they may have the best farm system in the league now.

But @eojsmada is right, the O's front office is pretty tight lipped.

My best guess is that they trade for another Eflin-type guy, a solid #2 type guy, or a #3 who can "play up" in the rotation as needed.
Yeah...I think they might go after someone like Luis Castillo, since the Mariners seem to actually want bats now.

If Mayo and Basallo are off limits, then they really dont have capital to pursue Crochet (Hopefully Getz did give away Cease but even then, he go got a single top 100 prospect)
There are some rumors that Kjerstad could be made available in the right kind of deal for a pitcher. But I would think Mayo and Basallo are definitely off-limits. As are Bradfield and Honeycutt, currently.

If Yankees make that trade they gotta get Tucker on an extension at the same time. You can't have the Soto situation as an option hanging over the season again. A lot of good pieces went to the Padres for one year of Soto. Can't do the same with Gil/Dominguez.
Agree to some extent. I honestly think Gil is at the highest value he will ever be in his career. Don't think he can replicate the season he just had. So being able to leverage that for another crack at a WS is never a bad thing. But to get Tucker on an extension would make that trade insane, IMO.

Every year I'm always fooled by how long the Winter Meetings are supposed to last. I always think it's like a full week or even two week long thing and I keep forgetting it's more like like an extended Board of Governors meeting. I blame Scott Boras.

DALLAS — Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki and corner infielder Isaac Paredes are two players the Houston Astros are targeting in a possible trade for right fielder Kyle Tucker, sources briefed on the discussions told The Athletic on Wednesday.
Talks are fluid, and the teams have exchanged a variety of names. Any Cubs package for Tucker, 27, likely would include prospects as well. Third baseman Cam Smith, Chicago’s first-round pick in 2024, is another player in whom the Astros are interested.
