I support Allen, but I'm honestly not a fan of electing Parker - maybe the weakest RF in the Hall of Fame outside of Ross Youngs and Tommy McCarthy, and probably no better than twenty or so others who will never have a chance (plus a few who might, like Dwight Evans).

Are these winter meetings all about signing free agents or are there actually conversations that go on? Do they discuss other things like the golden bat rule, special events (That event at the Raceway sounds interesting) and other MLB issues? These have been pretty exciting meetings so far but I wonder what actually goes on during this week.

There's a lot of stuff that goes on beyond just GM's and agents meeting, here are some links:

Like 10+ years ago, these meetings used to be crazy. Trades galore. Big signings. Now it's like the rest of the off-season, just a slow drip (aside from Soto and him signing changed nothing as far as activity goes). It's ridiculous...

Os need to get off their asses and find a strong front line starter. Top free agent dominos are falling quickly.

Well... they do have this Corbin Burnes guy who is looking for a new contract who is pretty good. Don't really understand why they aren't in on him. Seems like maybe the prefer to go the trade route to keep the money down and they have prospect capital to use. Maybe they are in on Crochet.

I'm sure they are in on Burnes, but it's possible the Fried contract might have reset the market/negotiations.

It just doesn't even seem like they are being mentioned about with Burnes though. Boston, Toronto, Giants being talked about as the front runners with Boston and Toronto being the most likely landing spots. Sounds like contract could be in the 240-260m range.

Elias never shows his hand and almost every insider is continually frustrated by the lack of information that comes from the Orioles.

I'd be surprised if Elias and the O's are willing to outbid every other team for Burnes. Both due to how much weight they put into advanced stats and because they'll be competing with some very deep pocketed teams that just lost out on Soto.

I also have a theory that McCann and Burnes go to the same team. Burnes used him as his personal catcher last year and the O's signed Gary Sanchez to backup Adley.

And they're reporedly not one of the most aggressive teams for Crochet. They don't have the prospect capital that they used to. The Red Sox are reportedly after him too, and they may have the best farm system in the league now.

But @eojsmada is right, the O's front office is pretty tight lipped.

My best guess is that they trade for another Eflin-type guy, a solid #2 type guy, or a #3 who can "play up" in the rotation as needed.
