How dare you

I mean, guys who get bought out usually count as scrap... Just because you buy a salvage title Corvette doesn't mean it wasn't "scrap" at one point.

What do you mean by hardware? Cups? You can't mean Cups.

In the seasons following the trade, Seguin finished top ten in goal scoring four times (two of those were top five). It was a better run than Modano ever had.

It's one of the best trades in Stars history by any measure.

Top ten is great but that's low to mid 30s. And no playoff success during that time. And I'm not a Modano fan. And the last five years of Seguin's career have been pedestrian to broken.

I was of the opinion that he should have been traded when his contract was up.

I'd frame it another way. Every team has roster holes. It's an intentional side effect of the salary cap. Gary Bettman wants every team to have weaknesses.

The thing with roster holes is whether the rest of the team can play well enough to cover up the weakness. In the playoffs last season, the Stars were able to cover up playing five D by seeing the rest of the roster play good enough to keep winning. Then the PP went from a strength to a zero in the conference final, and it all unraveled.

I mean, I give Nill credit for trying but his attempts at filling a top 4 rhd hole have been Johns, Klingberg and Nils.

And other than that he's finally tried with NHL UFAs who are... OK at best.

He filled the forward holes eventually, it just took him gambling pretty hard for winners.

For the RHD, Nill has also spent a 1st rounder (Honka) and a 2nd rounder (Kyrou). He's thrown attempts at it, but they mostly haven't worked. Quality RHD is the rarest commodity. It's very hard to find.

From Friedman's 32 thoughts:

18. Watching Dallas in person during my trip to Illinois, I was reminded Miro Heiskanen deserves a Norris Trophy. Not easy in the age of Quinn Hughes and Cale Makar, more visibly spectacular. Heiskanen’s a franchise player, with plenty of it occurring on his weak side. Him not winning a Norris will age poorly. Like, at his Hall-of-Fame induction.

Easy to look good against the Blackhawks..

That being said, Miro does a lot of amazing things defensively that are subtle and only show if you really watch him. Though i feel like its less than in years past... Gone is his amazing sweep/poke check from his rookie year.

He seems a step slower too now. That might be from playing him too much though.

I think some of that is deliberate, to help him
conserve energy and be able to play those absurd minutes. He knows he's gonna have many lengthy shifts, so there's no need to skate at 100% all the time.

NHL Edge could tell us more definitively, I can look later if I have time.

From Friedman's 32 thoughts:
I could see Miro getting a lifetime achievement Norris similar to how Drew Doughty got his.

The year he won it, Doughty didn’t have the spectacular numbers of some of the other defenders ahead of him, but he had already been a Norris finalist twice by that point and has been a key part of two Cup winning Kings teams. Voters wanted to give it to him because of how good he’d been over his career.

Miro has never garnered many Norris votes because his numbers have never been amongst the best. The best he’s ever finished is seventh in Norris voting, and that was his outlier season when he reached 73 points.
