Kadri, like the player hate the contract. There would have to be serious retention over the duration of the deal to give up Bourque. Bichsel is completely off the table for anything realistically acquirable. There's huge blowback potential on moving him. If no retention you're only shopping from the B-tier (Stranges/Kyrou/Bertucci/Minnetian). Unfortunately we may have to pay more to jettison Dumba

Calgary isn't far off from the cap floor, either. They could easily take on a cap dump or two from other teams to get over the floor, but presently that makes it impossible for them to move Kadri (much less Kadri and Andersson) without a corresponding move.

No interest in any of those really. If that is the best they can do then just ride what you got.

Any interest Patrick Kane? He still has amazing passes and plays RW. Robertson and Hintz could use someone with that skill. As could the PP.

I tend to agree that we need a big swing, like a PK. All the other guys mentioned really don't significantly increase your scoring. And again, someone mentioned tweaking the 4th line. Really, I don't know when a team won the Cup with a slightly better 4th line than they had before.

If we trade, we trade for an impact player, like Tanev last year.

I can’t imagine Kane will cost a ton. He is having a down year. Of course that could be cause he plays for Detroit and they are not good.

He's also just old and has recently had some major surgeries. Could just be the end of the road for him.

True but I’m willing to be he produces more than what Bourque and stankoven are giving right now.

He wouldn't cost much but I'm not sure he actually wants to go anywhere. He's got an NTC and given his age and palmares chasing cups may not be a priority of his anymore.
Patrick Kane loves Michigan, moved to the area aged 14 and played most of his junior hockey there. He opted to sign in Detroit as FA and even extended his contract there. I wouldn't be shocked to see him retire in Detroit.

Tkachuk took two roster players and a 1st to obtain, and very disenfranchised Eichel took a roster player and a 1st.

And I don't think Calgary expected Huberdeau to crap the bed as much as he has.

I mean, we can go look at the Panarin trade from Chicago to CBJ for Saad. Or O'Reilly for Berglund, Sobotka and Tage Thompson (and a 1st!)

Dallas hasn't really struck a trade like JT Miller or Buchnevich or even a Mark Stone where teams turned long shots into big scores. Not in a long time, and the last time, honestly, was the Seguin trade and even then I feel like we didn't win it.

Sometimes it is very much Nill scraping by on NHL scraps, like Suter, Duchene, Dadonov, Lyubushkin, Dumba, ... hell even Steel and Marchment.

Still just massive consistent roster holes that Nill hasn't filled very well.

Another key factor on ability to get a high end or at least top 6 forward is it seems like it will be a heavy sellers market.

Listing below contending teams who likely want to add a top 6 forward as their top priority for a Stanley Cup run

Dallas
New Jersey
Carolina
LA

And that's not even naming playoff contenders who will be pushy to buy to get in eg Vancouver, Pittsburgh

Alot of competition for probably a small amount of suitable trade candidates.

Trade winners usually get the best player, so when we got Seguin for spare parts it was a great trade by Nill.

Please name "consistent" roster holes he has failed to fill? GM's can't do much about retirement and long term injuries. They lost a whole scoring line of forwards, and still manage 3.2 goals a game. Jury is out on Stank and Borque, even though they haven't filled the scoring roles as quickly or as well as anyone wants.

Duchene was more of a take a guy who was dumped while still in his prime, and we signed him as a UFA at a bargain price. He is not a scrap.

Again with the HF bias.....our 2x GM of the year doesn't do anything very well....huh? And, if you are what your record says you are, he has built and maintained a top 5-10 team in the NHL, and they have done well in the PO (yes, without winning it all)

I'd frame it another way. Every team has roster holes. It's an intentional side effect of the salary cap. Gary Bettman wants every team to have weaknesses.

The thing with roster holes is whether the rest of the team can play well enough to cover up the weakness. In the playoffs last season, the Stars were able to cover up playing five D by seeing the rest of the roster play good enough to keep winning. Then the PP went from a strength to a zero in the conference final, and it all unraveled.

I didn't say we lost the trade. From a hockey fan standpoint, I doubt it. From a business standpoint, killed it, way to go Jimmy.

What do you mean by hardware? Cups? You can't mean Cups.

In the seasons following the trade, Seguin finished top ten in goal scoring four times (two of those were top five). It was a better run than Modano ever had.

It's one of the best trades in Stars history by any measure.

Part of the reason we haven't seen any big non-TDL trades is because of how lopsided Nill's first several of those were. Seguin, Spezza, Sharp were all big wins.

Could have been even better if it wasn’t for the freak incident. We would probably be taking about Peverley the same way we talk about Pavelski now
