Oettinger was the only Star to get named to Team USA. He will be the backup to Hellebuyck. No Stars made Team Canada or Sweden, which isn't a surprise.

USA has an interesting roster. They left out Tage Thompson too and took Kreider who is off to a rough start this year

Not totally sure how it plays out with LTIR, but we'll have at minimum around 12M and possibly up to 16.5M to play with at the deadline. I know LTIR prevents cap space accrual, but I don't know how the timing of placing Seguin on LTIR will affect that.

Outside of more injuries, we've got the cap space to leave him on standard IR until we make another acquisition.

Nill has to realize this is the year to go all in. Get a couple more middle 6 forwards, a top 4 RHD, pay whatever it costs in picks and non-roster futures.
That's a misconception.
It does not.
You need to be below the acsl to accrue cap space with ltir most of the time teams are not below that, the stars could be

could moving robo to 2nd line spark something or is play off side hard on fwds?
Had thought about it as well; Robo and Seguin aren’t fast skaters and it wouldn’t hurt to try out. Hintz and Robo isn’t working.

edit - more I think about it put Johnston in that spot. A right shot like Seguin, can take faceoffs and a good two way forward with a shot.

I would go with this.

Marchment - Duchene - Stankoven
Robertson - Hintz - Johnston
Benn - Bourque - Dadonov
Bäck - Steel - Blackwell

I think stankoven will flourish with how hot Marchment and duchene are right now. Hintz line will pick up. Robertson has looked a bit better the past few games. Plus they need time together. Bourque has to get off the 4th line and daddy has more skill than steel to help that line.

Unless Jim “Dallasman” Nill wants to make a trade. Please not Kreider. I would rather Zibanejad if he has to trade with the rangers.

I didn't have a problem with the way the team played last night tbh. Thought the lines looked fine

Knowing how Nill knows how to use cap space with paper transactions, I can guarantee he's looking at all options to make the cap work come deadline time.

Wonder if Nill would use some cap space at the deadline to retain for some other team and get some picks or a pick. This is all assuming we have space left after he makes some trades

I hope he does not do that. Load up for a cup run. Don’t help another team load up who could knock you out. Use that cap space to make this team better not other teams better.

I think the point there would be to use those picks to do exactly that. Depends on how much cap we'd have left over from whoever Nill targets.

I'm just saying after he makes his moves, depending on the new players salaries and if we still had 2 or so million left, I could see him getting a free draft pick.

Just a thought, and Nill loves his picks. The Canes did this last year, or the year before after they added some players at the deadline

Trouba is not the guy I would be interested in from NY. Getting rid of dumba would be ideal however. If they are throwing away players can we get zibanejad? He would be good with Robertson and hintz. They all seem to be hating on him lately.

Has Trouba been that bad in New York? I wouldn’t mind him in our lineup if we could get rid of Dumba.
The thing is he makes $8 million a season and has another season left on the contract. For what he’s paid, yes, he’s bad, but it’s all about the money.

Nill can make this a fun one by sending Dumba back the other way to make both fanbases mad about this trade.

We've been given free cap space with Seguin, unless they're taking Dumba55 back I'd rather not waste that space on Trouba.

We lack assets but this is the year to go all in now, Andersson needs to be a Star by the end of the TDL (unless Calgary has decided to keep him now), then you still have space to add another quality player.

Our picks/prospects would be pretty bare after, but at some point you have to take that risk, and the LTIR money is screaming that this is the year to do it.

Trouba retained at 50% for Dumba is close to the same hit. Question is, who's worse lol.

I feel like Trouba was once decent, but same could be said for Dumba.

Why? He's not hurting the team.
He's not on the roster just to be a warm body. The team expects more.

This isn't to say he's expected to put up big numbers. This is a league where a rookie forward scoring 30 points is often viewed as a good start.

But he's on pace for four goals and 16 points. That's bad, even for a fourth liner. That's worse than Faksa numbers.

More about Bourque because I kept looking and saw it get worse then more I dug into the numbers.

His game log is bleak. Five of his last eight games are not only zero points but zero shots. Over those eight games he has a total of two shots on goal and one secondary assist.
