The landscape for Gibson might have changed. Earlier this week I was listening to the NHL guys on Sirius and they were basically saying that the Ducks could get a ton for Gibson from a team that needs a goalie (Carolina seemed to be the target they were talking about). IMO the Ducks don't need to (and don't want to) retain on Gibson to get a good deal IF IF IF they even want to trade him now. The cap going up also means that other teams will be more easily able to fit the final two years of Gibson's contract into their budget. Another reason that retention most likely isn't on the table.

I haven't really followed his career, and I'm sure it's being overblown on here, but where there's this much smoke I have to think there are at least some embers

With the uncertainty of the progress of our youths and their offensive development along with the cap going up, do we want to move on from Gibson? Right now, we're a better team because of our duo of Dostal and Gibson. We currently don't have any goalies that can step up anytime soon in our system for that backup role. I don't know about the rest of the league's backup situation and who could be available, but is there a backup goalie out there as comparable to Gibby? If not, then would it be prudent to keep Gibby?

It’s funny because I’m sure the takeaway has been that he is available for trade when in my opinion the takeaway really should have been that there’s an executive out there that thinks zegras could be a top line wing on a contender when surrounded by the right talent

It would be an insane time to sell Zegras MEGA low. Dude's producing like a 3rd-4th liner these past 2 seasons.

It was very clearly just speculation and wishing. More "wouldn't it be fun if..." and, even if he was available, what would Colorado trade to the Ducks to make it worthwhile?

I mentioned in the Sennecke chat that Calum Ritchie is the Avs top prospect and team/linemate of Beckett. Nothing else really makes sense, and this would just push back our rebuild even more. Nothingburger.
