I might knock Zellweger but he, like Vatanen, both played above their stature and battled.

Fowler I don't think has ever done that in recent memory for the team. I would rather have a OZ than Fowler any day
Same. When it mattered vatenan made a lot of big mistakes though. I don’t see OZ being that egregious mistake prone in big moments.

The issue with Vatanen was that he could play either offense at about Fowler’s level of production, but look flashier doing it, OR play defense at Fowler’s levels of production, while looking grittier while doing it. What he could not do was play both offense AND defense at Fowler’s level at the same time.

Quinn Hughes is gone for a month probably.
Beeker should be on phone right now dangling Dumolin.

Does Van have any decent young kids to offer?

I don’t know, that’s like offering someone a spare floodlight when their motor breaks. They would probably be asking whether one of our regularly scratched puckmovers is available, if anything.

I'm overly confident that he'll re-sign in Toronto but if Marner becomes a UFA... I really think the Ducks should make a push. No one on this team screams that they'll for sure be better than Marner is right now. 80-100 point next year on Carlsson's right wing would look pretty nice. He's also excellent at defense. Probably cost 7 x 13mil but it's exactly the type of player the Ducks need.

I'm sure some would be worried about cap issues or setting future precedents for others. But I would argue that if all the young players deserve similar contracts, the Ducks are in an incredible position of too many good, productive players and it's a great problem to solve them.

My brain simplifies the issue: Ducks need scoring badly from the wing, Marner is one of the best in the league, add Marner, team improves.

Not sure what would be the point. He might be worse than Leason at this point.
Well we only have 12 healthy forwards right now and AT LEAST 2 of them are worse than Leason, so he probably shouldn’t be the measuring stick anyway. Unless McGinn’s injury is short term, I definitely wouldn’t be against it. Even if it is short term, I don’t think it’s a terrible idea.

One downside, and it’s a hopeful one, is that adding Marner long term might mean he occupies Sennecke’s spot for a while.

Might be a good thing, might create some back up

I would have said no at the start of the year, but at this point we need something. None of the kids up front took that big step they needed to take and we can't keep assuming they all pan out.

The only concern I have is basically doing what Toronto did where they sign the big UFA before signing their young guys longterm, and then everyone wants way more.

-Pick up Puljujarvi
-Put him with Carlsson
-Put Leason back in the bottom six where he's actually good (scratch Ross for not enforcing)
-Witness yet another bottom sixer failing to fix the utter dysfunction that is Killorn-Carlsson
-Get the message and free Carlsson from Killorn at last
-Pool Party is a hero!
-(alternately, he proves to be the guy who does fix the dysfunction somehow, funniest possible outcome, even bigger hero)

That said, hasn't one of the big knocks on him historically been confidence issues wrecking his game? I'm not sure this is an environment where he's going to thrive.

This is absolutely blowing up in Vancouver right now by the way.
Looks like Pettersson is available
Allvin went on blast basically, Not sure what you guys would offer, or how seriously you would be interested, He would obviously need a Haul.
But, just thought I would share and get your guys opinions!
Not everyday a 90+ Center with great Defensive abilities becomes available.

Thoughts?

He has reached 90 points once tho, 3 years ago. There was another season after that he almost hit it but then he hasnt reached 70 in any other season. And this year is on pace for below 70. His contract is pretty big, not sure if Pat wants to set a precedent for that kind of a contract for others too. Other than that, obviously would like him. But the contract situation, even if we have loads of cap, is a bit tricky.

Maybe I read that differently than you. Allvin stated Pettersson is part of the core and the long term future. Then he said I guess anything is possible in relation to a trade with Pettersson. That is not a signal Pettersson is available. That is a statement every GM makes; we've all heard the line 'if Gretzky can be traded, anyone can be traded." This is a nothing sandwich and Pettersson will not be traded to the Ducks.
