I’m sure a team trying to win a cup would give way more. His contract is a negative for us not a positive. His low cap doesn’t help the Ducks and the 2 years is a negative.

Ya idk that it would make sense... unless like cam fowler the guy going the other way (which i doubt fowler waives), and i dont think fowler is what calgary would want.
I mean im all for any RHD with upside.... idk that id pay the price they will want for Jiricek, but id for sure at least kick tires and see what they come up with.

The Avs likely should make a goalie move with Georgiev well into a second straight year of very up and down results. There's obviously some risk in Gibson but for the cost of what should be a late first + third rounder, I feel confident the Avs would receive much more consistent goaltending and at a very reasonable cost of $3.9M for two more seasons.
While I have some hesitance to see the Ducks deal from this position of strength - I think there are more signs pointing to moving Gibson vs keeping him as long as enough value is out there. Dostal has shown enough that he needs to be the center of our goaltending focus right now, in terms of getting him exactly the number of starts he needs. The second goalie does not need to be on a 6.4M salary for multiple more seasons, and I think it's fairly obvious that we'd be doing right by Gibson's career by moving him to a team with more pressing ideas of contending. In a perfect world, Georgiev rebounds enough in a lower pressure environment to have value by deadline day. I have faith in this scouting staff to uncover another Stolarz/Hiller to push Dostal next year. The Avs 2025 first is tied up in another conditional deal, hence the 2026 instead. While it's not ideal to wait a year, this draft isn't looking super strong and we are adding a valuable potential trade chip for the next time a star talent comes available.
The inclusion of Vatrano and Pageau may seem odd on the surface. Frank is an impending UFA who I personally don't see locking up with term. Nor do I see him fetching a great return now as a rental, even if his scoring comes back around as expected. Rather than moving him for a 2nd at the deadline, include him in a deal to bring back something we really need. Pageau is a consummate 3C, fast and tenacious plus a faceoff ace. Currently being used out of place as a top 6 winger. Has traditionally produced at a similar clip to Vatrano outside of Frank's big year. Would help tremendously in the faceoff circle and defensively for this year and next.
The Isles seem in need of a shakeup, off to a disappointing start. Rather than use Pageau on the wing, they swap in Vatrano coming off a 37 goal year. They potentially save 4M in cap space for next year (unless using it to keep Frank) and gain a pick for their trouble of eating a small chunk of Gibson's salary (1M per).

At this point, I don't want another 1st round pick unless it's used in a trade for a high end player. The Ducks need to replace some of their weaker components for top 6 forwards and top 4 defensemen. Ideally, they really need to focus on the forwards.
Carlsson, Terry, Gauthier, McTavish, and Zegras should be top 9 locked forwards. That leaves 4 spots between Leason, Lundestrom, Killorn, Fabbri, Vatrano, and Strome. These are the most obvious upgrade spots at forward. Swapping/dumping Killorn and Strome and replacing them with at least one effective top 6 player would make such a difference.

I'd rather have two more years of Gibson than one more year of Pageau. I don't think its worth dumping Vatrano to get a team to retain a portion of Gibson's contract. He's a pending UFA and if he bounces back, gets a second rounder at the deadline.
The only thing that change my mind is if it seems the Dostal/Gibson pairing isn't working (i.e., Gibson is unhappy and makes a stink about it). I don't see that happening in the short run. And if it does, the ducks can just retain 50% on his contract or take back a different bad contract to seal the deal. I see no value in Pageau. But if Verbeek does I can see the logic in this trade.

We still don’t know that gibson is okay with being a back up/1b scenario…. It very well might be gibson that’ll want out and a chance to be a #1 somewhere cause he isn’t going to get that in Anaheim

Ah yes, lord knows this team needs nothing more than more undisciplined elbowing penalties.
I'd absolutely entertain that idea. Trouba seems to be due for a change of scenery, and playing off the microscope of a huge market team could well help him get back to his former self.
Would take Kreider in a heartbeat. Need a net front guy. Biggest thing this team is missing. Rangers are all a mess now, not just him.

Yeah, I'm over pick accumulation without using it for anything at this point.
We need to start building the NHL roster from here on out in whatever way possible to help these guys develop. If a core of Carlsson/Sennecke/Zegras/McTavish/Gauthier/Mintyukov/Zellweger going forward isn't enough to eventually be competitive, then we're gonna be boned anyways.

Why? He's shit as a defender, and won't have the benefit of being in a large market team (with regards to his transgressions).
I don't think we would ask as much from him and he would still be much better in the defensive crease than what we have.
His physicality is something our d-core lacks outside of gudas.

I would avoid Trouba but man, Krieder is exactly what Killorn was supposed to be: a vet who can reliable score. Krieder being in front of the net is a huge bonus. I would really try hard to trade for him. Would really help Carlsson and Zegras on that line.

Unfortunately, Kreider has a 15 team NTC and I have to imagine the bottom dwelling Ducks are on it. If not or he's willing to waive, I can't see a better fit for need than this team. That being said, my gut is that the Rangers are just trying to scare the players into improving; they are 12-6-1.
