They play completely different roles.

I could see an argument be made that the roster with Trouba is better then the roster with Fowler, even though Fowler is clearly better.

The point is that we are taking mins away from players who deserve it. I don't believe Fowler deserves to play here anymore.

those guys absolutely need to be in the line up and none of them should ever sit. Helleson has been playing amazing as of late too. NOW we have Fowler AND we just added Trouba to that mix. Something has to give its bullshit

100% - we have to move Fowler + in order to get an impact forward. Preferably one who wins faceoffs or score goals.

Every night we lose battles in the crease against bigger teams. It's crazy to think that trouba wouldn't help there immensely.

Verbeek is a man who gets it done, you will all feel great about this trade shortly. Sometimes, you just need a change. Trouba now can play without the anxiety of not knowing what will happen to him. He is ready to turn the page, young dmen we have will have a true leader to learn from.

I think those that are worried about our young D getting "pushed out" are worried about nothing.

Minty got sat over Helleson and Lacombe. Thats tells me they sat him for a reason, or reasons. Its no different than what theyve done with our forwards. Could be anything from missing assignments to just giving him a rest.

Helleson has surprised us all, but its not going to hurt him to get some notes and go back to SD for a while.

Vaaks was a 6/7 guy who couldnt stay in the lineup.

Lacombe is fringe. Hes on a hot streak right now and improving, but hes also had stretches where hes a dud.

Zell is the only young D right now who looks like a guy you cant sit.

Fowler and Dumo are question marks. One is when they get moved and the other is if they get moved.

Send Helleson down for now. Lacombe to the pressbox once he starts struggling again. Fowler traded gets Lacombe back in and then someone like Helleson is recalled to play the merry-go-round with Lacombe in and out of the lineup.

They are building, were going to see some weirdness with the pairings and roster until they can get everything flushed out.

Lacombe may be a bit of a wildcard in terms of occasional high profile gaffs, but he's actually been pretty darn good. His talent level or toolkit is well above fringe and he'll only gain consistency by playing.

When I said fringe, I didnt like a fringe NHL player. I think hes showed hes an NHL player but more with the consistency
 
I’m really really happy with this trade, and even happier to learn that Trouba is 30( for some reason I’ve been getting 32-33 vibes on these boards) the guys loves his family, is an amazing teammate. He and his wife are close friends with vatrano (probably a lock we resign him now, have a feeling he takes a team friendly deal) and with strome and his wife. All this anxiety behind him, he will be solid for us on the ice and amazing off the ice. That’s my guess. All the while we aren’t being bullied in front of the net anymore. Trouba >>> Fowler all day any day as far as on ice and off ice leadership. Agree with verbeek when he says guys like Trouba don’t become available often. We all have had family concerns in our own lives. Just because these guys get paid hugely, doesn’t mean they’re immune to distractions. I’m glad for Trouba and his family to start this new chapter with us in Anaheim. Lfg!

Fowler isn’t a question mark, he’s not a verbeek player. He’s small, and he’s already been asked to open up his ntc so we have more teams to trade too. It’s inevitable. As far as verbeek is concerned zell is the only midget he would like on the blue line. Fowler plays a 5’5 mans game.

I get all of that, what I'm saying is it's only a question as to when he gets traded. For Dumo, it's if he gets traded. I've liked Dumo and would welcome him back but if he wants to play on the East coast and wants to win, trade him at the deadline.

I question why the people wanting Fowler gone at all costs feel like his return is going to be any different than the forward equivalent of Vaakanainen and a late 4th. A return for him is not improving the team significantly unless he plays enough (and well enough) to see if he can still play.

It’s mainly due to money. Not only his is cap hit smaller than Trouba’s, but the Ducks should be willing to take a short term bad contract back and/or retain salary. If they don’t do either of those things, then I would agree that the return is similar.
