It's ownership. Playoff mandate, they don't take care about picks or building a real contender. Nothing will change unless they sell.
This is a weird situation because, if you follow this logic, wouldn't ownership have demanded they trade some futures to improve the team since this team is bad, fading down the stretch, missing their star player, and has a slew of games coming up against top teams in the Western Conference. Or maybe it's some type of settlement between ownership and management where the try to limp into the playoffs and don't move futures? I don't know, it doesn't seem like they were all-in on the playoffs here. This group is probably more likely to miss at this point.
I think they know this team has no chance of winning, but retaining Boeser and Suter significantly boosts their odds of securing that 8th spot.
They probably will miss the playoffs now tho, which is pretty funny. If they lose the upcoming b2b the season is over. So they held on to these guys for like a week of meaning full hockey.

I don’t about that but everything that has come out and the way Carolina does business makes me more inclined to believe that Boesers value is absolute crap. Books out on him being a passenger.
I agree with all of this but I'm highly doubtful we'll land either of those guys. We'd have to really pony up and overpay.
Boeser has never been a play driver other than in his rookie season. The back injury absolutely f***ed his ceiling.

Also the Sedins helped give him looks with the puck where he could have picked his nose and still got a great shot off.

Beauv at $1 mill to Wash landed a 2nd. Assuming retained, that's $3.3 mill to Wash (not sure on their cap situation on being able to take that). Would be $800K or so give or taken for the final 1/4 of the season vs the $250K of Beauv.
That's the one when I do wonder about Brock's value when the Caps make that call. Zetterlund for the Jets, I get since he is a RFA so they get an extra year and even with that they only gave up a 2nd.
Be it contract negotiations or trade, have to know what the value is around the NHL. Like Carolina thought they could get a deal with Rant done but couldn't. Ended up weakening their club for the upcoming PO instead of upgrading it like they had intended.

Nothing is more annoying, not you by the way, then people saying people are overreacting about the deadline.
There are multiple reports now saying they could have got a 1st in the last 30 min.
They chose to stick pat and do nothing.
This is nothing more than an absolutely massive organizational failure from top to bottom, there’s no sugarcoat in this whatsoever.
People have every right to be furious about this, it’s a slap in the face to the fans if he walks as a ufa.

Seems like they never got a straight pick for Boeser. I get the usual take a back an ahl contract off us to even out the contracts side.
I don't think it's only that, but between all the drama surrounding the Canucks this season and the uncertainty of Pettersson's play, I suspect teams were hoping to take advantage. Basically, they were hoping we'd be desperate just to make any sort of move. Hence the lowballs.
If that is the case, good on Allvin not making a trade. It'd worse giving Boeser away for pennies on the dollar after being essentially forced to do that with Miller.
