Prospect Info: 2024-25 Ducks Prospects

"Nathan has an impact on every game," McIlvane shared. "Even if he’s got a goal or two more at this point last year, he’s making a much more positive impact on a game-by-game basis for our hockey team."

McIlvane went on to praise Gaucher's transformation into a more complete player, particularly his improvements in defensive play. "He’s become an elite defensive player, and he’s one of the most physical guys night in and night out. It’s a giant step for the way that he’s going to play at the next level."

Pretty obvious to anyone who has watched him semi-regularly this year, and no surprise to see McIlvane praise him given how he has used Gaucher this year. Pretty clear from early on that he massively trusts him to play seriously heavy minutes against team's top players week in week out.

I said it in the Gulls thread, but it's a shame about the injury as I think it means he starts next year in San Diego, but I suspect he'll be up with the Ducks by December.

Maybe I'm jinxing myself saying this but might be really nice to be able to roll out him and LaCombe in high-pressure situations

Feel like the 2024 draft was deeper than it seemed, at least for the Ducks despite the 2023 being said to be deeper than 2024. Sennecke, Tarin Smith, Proczyn, Masse, Solberg, Pettersson.

Not sure if it's been posted but MoDo got relegated from the SHL in a playoff with HV71 (after being up 2 games to 0). Pettersson had been recalled previously but was restricted to 20 minutes across the 5 games (including playing no minutes in game 2) with no points.

I'm unfamiliar with contracts in Sweden (if teams retain rights on youth players), but his contract is now up with MoDo.

Modo's U20 last game was Mar 11th in the playout playoffs. They barely made the cut.

Modo's SHL club started the playout on Mar 14th. Lucas Pettersson had no where else to go and barely got minutes in each playoff game.

I personally don't like what Modo's done to Pettersson this season as he was moved around between three teams and three leagues (SHL, HA, and Sweden U20) far too many times. There's a YT video out there showing this craziness. With that said, I'd like Lucas to stay in Sweden to stash because he's not ready for the SHL and didn't get a long enough burn in one sitting in the HA. We have until June 1, 2028 to sign Lucas if he stays in Europe. If we sign him and bring him over to NA to play in the AHL, then his ELC will slide one year because he's still under 20 years old before Jan 1st of the next season. We lose two ELC seasons if he signs with us this summer.

IMO his best option in the short term would be to play junior hockey in NA next season. Not sure which junior team (if any) holds his rights. I don't think he's physically strong enough to play in the AHL next year.

Perhaps if Pettersson's grades are solid then the college route could be an option? Don't think he signed a pro contract in Sweden?

Petterson was doing well in HA so no point sending him to a junior league. He can sign another contract with a Swedish club that wont keep sending him to different teams or go play in NCAA.

I would be fine with him coming over and play with the Gulls next year. His development is more important than 1 year of ELC and by the looks of it the Gulls will be good next year.

I believe it is possible to petition to have a guy go to the AHL. Just doesn't seem to be an oft used option (Shane Wright?).

Didn't Wright get his exception because of Covid?

From Pro Hockey Forums:

CHL players are typically ineligible to play in the AHL until they are 20 years old on or before December 31 of the given season. Shane Wright won’t turn 20 until January 5, missing that cutoff by just five days. Another way to get out of the CHL-NHL agreement is to play four full seasons in the CHL, something Wright would have achieved had the 2020-21 OHL season not been canceled.

There's another missing piece, to have a full season count, Wright had to play 25 OHL games in his last season. Problem was that he only played in 24 OHL games. That was another exception made.

Sennecke is his third season in the OHL. He does not meet the four OHL seasons like Wright did.

Oh... and Husso got his Ducks goalie helmet in. He helped secure a 3-1 win in tonight's game.

Three Stars:
1. Solberg
2. Husso
3. Myatovic

Other news, Bakersfield and Tucson are tied at 2 goals apiece after two periods. Worst case scenario is the game going to OT.

Rodwin had a primiary assist in today's loss to GCK Lions, 5-1. The series is tied 1-1 in the U20 Elit playoffs in the Swiss league. It's the first point for Dionicio in this series. Rodwin's behavioral misconduct continues across the pond as he was assessed a 10-min penalty for "Unsportsmanlike conduct toward officials" in the first period. Then he assisted in the only goal for Biel in the 2nd period.

Mar 27: Lions 3, Biel 4
Mar 30: Biel 1, Lions 5
