This is where is makes it really hard to properly asses players. Does Killorn suck, or is he just checked out? Is Zegras really struggling or is he just not responding to the coaching?

I can totally understand a GM blowing off some of that, but if its hampering your prospect growth, you are only going to do damage long term.

That said, you have to make sure you just arent firing a guy, but that you have the right guy lined up. Maybe you do a temporary interim coach, but you also dont want to rock the boat too much if you have your eye on a guy who you think is going to get fired elsewhere or just isnt available quite yet.
Both lol

One important caveat after listening is that Biz specifies that he hasn't spoken to any players currently, that his understanding of the situation is based off of exit interviews from last season.

Whit is the one who brings it up initially, though. Doesn't specify anything about his source(s).

But yeah the gist is that Cronin is a tough love hard ass that was (is?) more concerned about pushing players to work harder than about breaking down film etc.

Look the truth is.. We had eakins here.. And he was soft as babys butt. And now we got a hard noses coach.. And they still complain? Im sorry but at this point the players just gotta man up and play the f***ing game
Hardass only works when the system is successful. And even then, it’s got a pretty limited shelf life.

Can't be too soft or too hard... We need the fiber supplement of coaches

Thank you! It's disturbing stuff but I wish there were more than hearsay from last season's exit interviews. Does the recent turnaround in play suggest that some kind of nut has been cracked, that they've found a way to live together? Is everyone still tuning him out? This seems to have come up as part of a larger discussion about the time of year when coaches get fired; they mention Sullivan and Montgomery, ask "Who else?" and Cronin comes up.

I don't trust those two knobs. Doesn't mean it isn't true, but they aren't exactly pillars of veracity.
I don't much care for them myself. That said, they seem to be tuned in with players around the league way more than the knobs TSN calls insiders. Also, in this case, it would seem to jive with things we see on the ice as well as some of the recent outspoken statements from players. I think this is a brutal indictment that we are indeed on the wrong path.

Thats not a bad take, but there is a happy medium. A lot of people would also argue it isnt all about being hard or soft on the guys, but how you bring them forward and the systems you have in place.

Im the first to say I didnt think Eakins was the problem, but if you think its the coach and not the team, then fine, replace him. He wasnt a great coach no matter how you slice it. I had really high hopes for Cronin, but if hes lost the locker room, then thats obviously an issue too.

Beeker needs to listen to the guys in the locker room that have been there and done that. Guys who have had great coaching and shit coaching. Ask Gibson, Fowler, Dumo, Gudas, Killer what the issues are. If they all say "Its the coach and his system" you have to take that with some weight.

Yeah saw that tweet. Its good, small sample with a good team. Was also fired by the Stars for Unprofessional behavior tho.

We do need a "Positiv coach", which he seems to be.

Yeah, not sure I can put all the blame on the players. They are just not scoring enough goals and the dump and chase doesn’t work for the skilled guys.

The one guy who has looked the best offensively is not even on pace for 60 points, just under. That’s an issue.

Didn’t Pat tell Cronin that he needs to pump the brakes a bit after last year? Cronin said he would adjust his approach but seems like he hasn’t. Coaches rarely reinvent themselves much less over the course of 1 summer.
