Do you think if they trade him, it will be to another NHL team?Yeah but if they don’t sign him he could become a free agent, although if they trade him they can’t use him in the lineup

Mitts + Mikko for Norris/Stutzel + Tkachuk!!!
Likely, although there’s an outside chance he goes to Vancouver.Do you think if they trade him, it will be to another NHL team?
Sure, agreed. However Landy, was the captain and wanted to be here. I don't think 96 gives a shit where he plays, he wants the bag.Landeskog went to free agency and still returned.
This isn’t always the case. Just pointing that out.
I know it's not realistic. The age of Mikko doesn't even fit with their core. I'm just trying to shit post away the pain of the Bronco's loss. How much would Ottawa have to pay him for him to re-sign there? Even then it’s doubtful. Ottawa goes from Stützle to Mittelstadt even if they’re Rantanen is a more productive player than Tkachuk
I could see Svech or Necas if Mikko comes signed. Mikko would be adding exactly what that team is missing in an elite game breaking talent.
In the case of Svech we'd add some cap space, but would they be able to make up for the major loss of talent on the wing in depth? Easier said than done.
OuchLikely, although there’s an outside chance he goes to Vancouver.
Avs aren’t trading Mikko. He’ll be re-signed
Not mine. Fresh, airy, with a clean crisp essence. You said an impending UFA needs to be traded before the deadline and that we can’t trade him after the season.
The sky is also blue.
Farts smell.

I know reporters have a job to do, but to put silly things out there just for clicks makes them look stupid. If Avs can’t re-sign Mikko they’ll trade him. Yeah ok sure. All that franchise altering decision is gonna come in the next couple of months before the March deadline, and Avs will know by that time whether they can re-sign Mikko or they will trade the 3rd leading scorer in the NHL.Yeah one of the biggest reasons I don't see it happening is they'd be risking pissing off MacKinnon mid season, which could impact their playoff chances.
If the goal is the Cup no matter what, I have a hard time seeing them take that risk with Nate. He likes playing with Mikko. Letting him walk as a UFA, he could rationalize as a business decisions, but a trade mid season would be different. That has a chance to make them worse after they've already put in work.
Nate can be a moody guy and when he goes into a mental funk he doesn't play well.
Only way I see it happening is if they trade for Crosby in a separate deal to appease him, but I don't think Crosby wants to leave Pittsburgh. That doesn't sound right so let me amend it. I don't think he wants to leave the Pittsburgh Penguins.

That’s some top notch reporting
Oh I know it's not only about this year. My whole point is making the team better sans Mikko is easier said than done. Svech probably gets a boost playing with Mack, but even there's still a gigantic talent discrepancy there. And even then you still need to actually hit on the improvements down the lineup. Just sounds way easier to make the team better without Mikko than it sounds imo.It wouldn't be simply about this season. Right or wrong..
You'd think any talented winger would get the Mack boost, and probably be better defensively than Mikko. I don't know shit about Necas though tbh.
Feels really unlikely, but also Renaud is one of the best reporters out there. Historically he migth be the best sourced guy with the Avs. He's nailed a lot of out of left field rumors.
If this doesn't happen, and Gabe comes back relatively soon, part of me will wonder if the Avs decided to start using the media to their advantage, with selective leaks to Renaud, Severali, and perhaps others?

@dahrougem2 has better sourcesRenaud is one of the best reporters out there. Historically he migth be the best sourced guy with the Avs. He's nailed a lot of out of left field rumors.
They didn't bring Rants to arbitration as a RFA but it wasn't easy at all if you remember correctly, he missed the whole training camp and they couldn't sign him to max term.ROR forced his way out as an RFA, and Barrie was used to shore up 2C because we had Makar. Not even remotely similar scenarios.
I thought he signed right before FA because he secured the 8th year?Landeskog went to free agency and still returned.

I’m not sure, but all I know is that there is zero chance Mikko is traded by March. Of course if somehow it happens, I’m gonna feel stupid but for now I feel comfortable that it won’t happenFeels really unlikely, but also Renaud is one of the best reporters out there. Like what? I can't remember the last last time an Avs rumor hit.Feels really unlikely, but also Renaud is one of the best reporters out there. Historically he migth be the best sourced guy with the Avs. He's nailed a lot of out of left field rumors.

It all comes down to if they believe that they have a chance to keep him or not. It's possible that they don't want to go above 12M for Rantanen and they have been told that it won't happen.Yeah, just before free agency opened. I mean he went the whole season, playoffs, etc. and signed a day before free agency started. I was replying to a post stating that if Rantanen hasn’t signed by now(January 12th) then he’s a goner. Landeskog signed much later than that.
Thats fair. I just can't recall many instances where we knew for sure a player was being shopped. Barrie was the last one I can definitivly say for sure. The specifics are escaping me at the moment so maybe someone else can help me out here? I just remember Renaud being the only one to report multiple things that ended up becoming true.
Not the kind of rumors you just put your finger up in the wind to figure out either. The kind of rumors that only someone with a well placed source would know.
This goes back many years, over a decade I believe. I don't think there's been much recently though.
Again, I think this one is very unlikely, but who knows.
