But for me, I remember that Nathan MacKinnon wandered in the wilderness for a couple of years.

I kind of think we should all tap the breaks here on Casey and wait until the end of his first full year with us before bringing out the pitchforks, crucifying him, sending what's left of his corpse off with assets to get someone else to take him only then try to find another #2 C with whatever assets are left over.

Count me out. I happen to think we need to lean in to Casey and me this work.

Its extremely alarming that a guy who has been with the team 5 minutes has already supplanted him on the depth chart. I’m optimistic about Pärssinen but 2C is a tall ask. It feels like Johansen all over again. At least goalie has been upgraded though.

MacKinnon was always much, much more talented than Mitts, put up 50-60 points seasons his first few years in the league, and then figured it out in his 5th NHL season when he was 22 years old.

Mitts was statistically worse than Jost his first few seasons in the league, got demoted to the AHL at one point, and is in his 7th/8th NHL season, at 26 years old.

MacKinnon and Mitts are not the same. I agree Mitts can be better, but the question is how much, and how long are they willing to wait for it?

This is why it's felt like Bednar and MacFarland haven't been on the same page for a few years now. Last year MacFarland went and got Bednar some crash-and-bang bottom six guys and Bednar neutered the f*** out of Trenin and Duhaime physically. He gets him a 2nd line center who since his draft has had major skating issues for a system designed solely for good-to-great skaters.

It doesn't make sense to me.

It's not his skating it's his approach to the game. His skating isn't causing all his unforced turnovers. His head is.

Many of his turnovers happened when he's barely moving, spinning around in circles, and trying to make fancy blind passes that end up on the opponents stick.

I am willing to be a bit more patient with Mitts. He has been a bit better the last couple of games.

Have to disagree on that. He was really bad against Chicago. About 5-6 really bad unforced turnovers. Less bad against Minny, but still not that great.

He's now on pace for 93 points (down from over 110). Werenski is one point behind and has a game in hand. That's insane considering how far ahead Makar was just in November.

Needs are a 3rd pairing D, preferably left shot to play with Malinski and 4th line center who is above average at face offs - could also be a winger who is good a draws in a pinch.

Preferably that center is a guy who can moonlight at 3 C or is a true 3 C who can bump Kelly down to 4 C.

Might also go shopping for a 13th/14th forward as well to give more options to the bottom 6 and a 3rd goalie if a vet is out there that you think you maybe could sneak by on waviers. I would love to see the NHL add a waiver exempt 3rd goalie vet spot/contract in the next cba so playoff teams can carry a third goalie…

Brian Dumoulin from the Ducks is an easy choice for me on D. Big, left shot, defense first guy that slots in on the third pair. Expiring contract on not a bad cap hit. Will probably cost a 3rd plus to get.

Evans would have been my choice for center like others have mentioned, but I think the Habs are going to make the playoffs or at least give it a real shot. So they either are going to be keeping him or the price will be a kings ransom.

I watched the game last night and boy it was something. Miller legit looked like he was trying to sabotage the game for the Canucks all game long lol. Pettersson looked like he did both prior to his break and during his break, non existent.
