Rumor: 2024-2025 Trade Rumors and Free Agency Talk | The Slow Crawl to the Season

Avs could really use a pest but outside of Manson there's no one on the roster to extinguish the fire if/when things go south.

We’ll just trade Mitts+Colton for Miller and sign J. Toews and have the most intense center core in the league!

Landy and Wood LTIR till playoffs then run with lines of:

Drouin-MacK-Rantanen
Lehkonen-Miller-Nuke
Landeskog-Toews-LOC
Wood-Parssinen-Kelly

It's not just MacDermid that we haven't replaced, it's also swapping Landy for Drouin and Kadri for Mitts.

The current Avs team is really soft compared to the cup season.
MacDermid was and still is amazingly easy to knock down for as big a guy as he is, not to mention his stick turns into a foam pool noodle when it's in his hands--even Givani Smith is better at fighting off opposing players in puck battles. I don't know why in hell a player like that even needs to be replaced.

Team "toughness" is about my least concern, the lack of skill down the depth chart and continued special teams struggles are much bigger issues.

Duhaime is playing well in Washington
He isn't really, it's just that Washington is going so well it doesn't matter.

This nonsense about us being soft is also just that, nonsense.

There's a big difference between being full of goons and being soft. The Avs are not soft at all. They just aren't filled with goons either.

Kiviranta, LOC, Kelly, Colton, Wood... None of those guys are soft. They'll throw hits and take hits to make a play and they aren't at all afraid to get involved in post whistle scrums either.

I mean literally go back a week ago to the Buffalo game and Wedgewood injury. Who were the three guys on our team that were most aggressively trying to get at Benson when he celebrated the goal? LOC, Kivi, and freaking Sam Girard.

Undersized, maybe... But that's also something the Avs clearly don't give a shit about. And Bednar specifically employs a system that doesn't value hitting and adding big hitters won't change anything as we saw last year as well.

That's 2 years in a row now that Makar seems to run out of gas offensively at mid season. Last year he carried the team on his shoulders in October and November and by the time that we reached the all star break his play had declined to the point that most people thought he needed surgery.

This year after a couple of months he was alone on top of all other dmen, he was on pace for like 120 points. Unfortunately his offense declined pretty severely in the last several weeks. Hughes and especially Werenski are about to pass him now.

He plays too much. There's no way around it.

Also he hits the post too much

Checking game logs, hmm, 11 points over his last 10 games. Over a point per game pace for a defenseman is good, right?

Good yes, Norris worthy and record breaking, probably not.

He's now on pace for 93 points (down from over 110). Werenski is one point behind and has a game in hand. That's insane considering how far ahead Makar was just in November.
