Has anyone done the cap gymnastics to see what a Crosby trade would have to look like to make it work?
It would probably take a 3rd party who would want Rantanen as an exchange. The money has to work somehow. And Pittsburgh has zero interest in a rental like Rantanen, they would want picks and prospects.

Pittsburgh has zero interest on that deal. If they were ever to trade Crosby, it would be a full teardown. Picks and prospects.
IF, and that's a HUGE IF, Crosby asked for a trade, I can guarantee you that he will go where he wants to and Pittsburg will make it work for him.

I just have a very, very hard time seeing Crosby pulling a different jersey over his head. The only caveat to that is if he wants to play beyond the two years he's got left. If he's thinking he's got an additional two to four years after that, then maybeish I could see him wanting to go somewhere more competitive.

Chicago went way too far with their tank job. Bedard sounds defeated and is losing confidence. You’re telling me a guy like Hagel couldn’t help that kid right now? Even Kane and Dach would be better than what they have. They look a long ways from being competitive again and will miss out on many of the best years of his career and value contract years
Bedard is vastly overated

Chicago's tank job was unheard of in the cap era. They unloaded everyone that had value, even their young players.

There's a decent chance that they become Buffalo/Ottawa and keep collecting high end talent without being able to build a real team with them.
They don't have much so far

I very much doubt the Avs make a trade until they figure out what's going on with Landeskog. As it stands right now, they'll have like 3m in cap space when Rosco is back in the line-up. So move out someone to make room, or if Landy isn't coming back, go out shopping.

Again though, no matter which guy the avs go and get, there will be at least 1 major concern, and probably a handful of other concerns.

Consistency, ability, health, mental toughness, regression, game load capacity, etc. Any guy they try to get is going to have a smattering of these issues.

Gonna have to pick the ones you’re most comfortable with and hope for the best.
But if the goalie doesn't play he provides absolutely nothing.....and we are not even discussing what we gave up for him.

My post literally addresses that.

Any goalie we can reasonably obtain will have issues. Some of those issues are injury issues. Some will be healthy but inconsistent. Some will be healthy and simply not good enough. There’s no slam dunk guy out there.

The avs will have to select which “warts” they’re willing to accept if they make a move. All of them have a degree of risk.
