I'm not really against trading for Gibson, especially since I have no faith in George anymore and would take the kid working the cellphone kiosk at the mall over him. But he is 31 and injury prone. We should only shackle ourselves to Gibson's contract if you think Annunen can carry a heavy load and might even have to come in during the playoffs.

I think that's the downside/risk of Gibson. He either takes solid command of the starting role, or he doesn't and on top of that Annunen doesn't prove to be good enough to split the net. So you have to go trade for another young goalie.

I don't think he's going to fall off a Cliff in the two years after this especially looking at finally backstopping a playoff team.

Yeah, also add Crosby to boot

So we would take the exact same gamble of Georgierv, except for twice the years, and pay for it?

And that is for retained Gibson

What..?

My main concern is injuries. Me noting his age wasn't because I think he's going to washout, I'm just concerned, because even when he was a younger man he has accumulated 19+ injuries in his career. His old bones aren't getting any stronger.

What kills me about this thread is people almost never look at potential upside. Only downside.

What happens if Gibson gets the f*** away from a truly horrendous hockey team that has hung him out to dry for the last 5 years (seriously, go check how many high danger chances this guy has faced on a per-60 basis) and figures it out playing behind a very good defensive team?

The injury concerns are legit, and there is always potential for regression. However, there's also legitimate reason to believe Gibson has been mailing it in given his injury history and shitty team situation.

Has Gibson ever requested a trade?

I mean, if he had and the Ducks didn't do it, and then he mailed it in that's one thing. If he never requested out and mailed it in, that's kind of another thing isn't it?

Yeah, and

The thing is, Gibson is not an answer. He might be one, but he ain't one.
You make it seem like there’s a flurry of good to great options out there.

The Avs have no starting goalie for next season. What’s your plan? Sign a UFA one? Ok, which one? And for how much and how long?
Trade for a real solution like you keep saying? Ok, who’s the REAL solution that’s available, that’s doesn’t have a big cap hit, that’s available and that the Avs have the requisite pieces that the other team wants?

There are literally only a handful of REAL solutions, I don’t think a single one of them is available, or fits the salary structure

This site needs a multiple like button because I want to like this post at least 4 times. Maybe 5, if I have more gin.

Reportedly he’s tried to force their hand at least once. Doesn’t sound like the relationship between goalie and organization has been a good one for a while now.

Nice first period for Gibson.

Ducks leading 1-0 after 20 and Gibson has stopped the 11 shots he faced.

What I’ve always liked about him is he’s a sponge who gives up very few rebounds but is also still very quick laterally. Plays even bigger than his 6’2” frame, not sprawling forward and looking small like some other goaltenders.

The guy is a good goalie, period.

I think I'm sold on him.

Columbus is gonna move Provorov at some point this season, and for obvious reasons, I could see us being all over it. He'll be this year's Walker

Speaking of trading with the Ducks...what are their plans with Dumoulin? And what is he going to cost at the deadline if they do move him?
