Sanheim was part of the nixed trade involving Hayes a couple years back, but seems like Flyers decided to resign him for big dollars and long term. Why would they consider trading him? He plays so many minutes for them

Due to his age no aligning with their rebuild and option to get a blue-chip. I’d be willing to add, but think it’s a reasonable starting point.

Bruins players gave up on the coach they didn’t all turn to pumpkins over night. Also, lol at getting rid of the highest win % coach over the last two years for Joe Sacco.

A line of Drouin - Sid - Mack would go crazy, but it'll never happen. Likely after Mikko walks, next year it'll be:

Drouin - Mack - Nuke
Rosco - Mitts - Lehky

Also, CapWages finally moved Nuke to the active roster.
Nah you still gotta run Mack and Sid down the middle IMO.

They'd get to play PP together but Center their own lines. Obviously we're talking pure fantasy here but something like:

Drouin - Mack - Nuke
Lehky - Crosby - Mikko
Colton - Mitts - Landeskog

Would be an absolutely insane Top 9. And tbh I think if the Avs got Crosby with 50% retention or even 75% retained as @Cousin Eddie suggested, I think they could make this work under the cap.

If the Avs wanted to go real crazy... Trade Mikko for Shesterkin, then trade for Crosby @50%. Assuming Landy is indeed still coming back you would have something like:

Drouin - Mack - Nuke
Lehky - Crosby - Landy
Colton - Mitts - Kovalenko
LOC - Ivan - Kelly

Toews - Makar
Girard - Manson
???? - Malinski

Shesterkin
Annunen

Don't even need a 4th line with that top 9 and how Bednar utilizes his players.

Bizznasty taking bets on Twitter that Crosby is going to end up with the Avs...

He might want to see that happen even more than all of us:
I know people scoff and figure that it's a huge pipe dream but if the pengooins start selling off Malkin and Letang and more, I'm not convinced that #87 is really going to want stay there and ride-off into the sunset for the next 2.5 seasons while playing with a bunch of Tyler Arnason wannabees.

IF he was to be traded here (and that's a big giant IF) then my expectations are that it would be for this year and next year and then he'd be shipped back to PIT for the last year of his deal. (Isn't that pretty much our window anyways?)

Nah...I'd prefer the Avs go full gangster and give vgk a taste of their own medicine. Ask Gabe if his 'setback' is going to have him out until approximately April 17th at 10pm EST. After all, what's a few more months??? Then you put him on LTIR for the season and acquire Crosby with minimal or no retention. Rants is able to stay on the team for this playoff run and if all goes well he goes to UFA with 2 Cups on his resume. It sucks to lose him for nothing but at the same time - 2 Cups.

“There are two teams that immediately jump to mind as potential fits: the Colorado Avalanche and Carolina Hurricanes.

The Avalanche were 31st in the NHL in goals against heading into Tuesday’s action. That’s not all on the goaltending, but goaltending sure as heck is a big part of it. There’s no question in my mind the Avs could use an upgrade in goal.

But that opinion is not shared where it matters most: inside the Avs’ front office. League sources suggest the team believes its goaltending will steady itself and is OK sticking with what it has.

And when it comes to starter Alexandar Georgiev, who is in his last year of a $3.4 million contract, you can understand why there is still belief internally. He went toe-to-toe with Connor Hellebuyck and Jake Oettinger last spring in the playoffs and didn’t get outplayed by either. Sure, the Avs ultimately lost to the Stars in the second round, but having covered that series, I sure didn’t think it was because of goaltending.

The other reason I think the Avs don’t currently plan to trade for a goalie (always subject to change between now and March 7) is that they don’t look at the market and see a true difference-maker available — or at least someone who is a clear upgrade on Georgiev. And when it comes to Gibson, they’d also have to worry about the remaining term on the contract, given their always-complicated salary cap situation.”
