The Avs management of doing the stupid goalie musical chairs instead of investing in what should have been Kuemper is biting us bad. Very very foolish behavior
I can’t fault them too much for skipping on Kuemper. He wasn’t very good, cap was super tight, and the musical chair game had been working well enough to that point. Losing Frankie and getting stuck on a crappy chair was bound to happen eventually, but the hope was they could make it last long enough. I don’t know what the team will do now, but I think they made the right decision at the time.

Grubauer basically has three years left on his deal. That doesn't seem like an Avs move, even at 50% retained. They'd be locking in the goaltending position with someone who is mediocre at best until he's 35.

Whether we agree with their approach or not, we gotta look at older goalies in their last year or younger, cheap, unproven options.
CMac's MO is to have a starting goalie making about $3.5m.

Grubauer $3.33m x 3
Kuemper $3.5m x1
Georgiev $3.4m x 3.

Grubauer at 50% would be $2.95m x 3 which would actually be cheaper than usual. The real question is if they think Grubauer is young enough to hold up for 3 years at this point.

He's an athletic goalie who is 32 and losing his athleticism. They would be beyond idiotic to think he can hold up.

I'll be surprised if the Avs don't put a claim in for Barre-Boulet. Guy is the epitome of top-6 or bust, and we happen to be very devoid of top-6 wingers.

Grubauer: 26
Kuemper: 29 (one year from UFA)
Georgiev: 26

IMO, age is just as important as the AAV.

Get Husso claimed.
$4.75m is too expensive of a caphit to get saddled with without cap going out

The Avs are already at 23 men on the roster, so they'd have to send someone down to make room for ABB. Probably one of Ludvig, Ivan, or Annunen.

And he was coming off the eye injury.

What if we go 2-12 in October?
I know you've become more optimistic in your outlook over the years, but dude... put down the burgundy tinted glasses just a bit here. You to take the under on that all day long. :sarcasm:

I miss that guy, he provided us with hope when the team was just awful.
I just can't help but think we completely f***ed ourselves. Imagine having a healthy Varly the last 6 years? How much does that change the picture? From team needs, to team psychology... I think we would have been better and even tougher to beat. Varly has always been a competitor.

He had so many great saves and performances for us, but my favorite mental image of him was his reaction when angry after a play. He'd push his bucket up on top of his head and just stand there leaning on his stick throwing straight shit lasers from his eyes at whoever offended him.

Is it really that far fetched that we can go 2-12? I mean I know that sounds crazy but where are the wins gonna come from? Unless our goalies suddenly get good

That's why I put the sarcasm smiley.

Personally, I feel Nate and Makar will assure us of at least that many victories alone.

We all know that at some point, the dawg in Nate just has to be let out and those times often come after the team has been losing a bit. So we'll get plenty of opportunities to see him at his most dominate in the early go here. Another huge positive for me early on is Girard's play. He's been really solid and I believe he and Mitts are starting to gel a little and maybe develop some chemistry. Would be extremely nice if they gel and get to read each other the way Nate and Cale do.
