Can't believe anyone would want to trade for Swayman and give up the game of "what goalie from the scrapheap can we get with a 3rd and 4th" we get to play every other year.
Swayman beat out Ullmark in GSAA/60, beat him raw numbers, won the net over him, and had one of the best playoff performances a goalie can have while only playing two rounds. Ullmark wasn't playing bad... he was basically just a small step back from his Vezina season. If you simply look at the raw GSAA, Swayman was 2nd in the playoffs to Shesterkin by .34 goals... who played 4 more games than Swayman. Rate wise, he was saying .9 goals against per game over the average. Of goalies that have played more than 1 series, only 2 other goalies have done that in a playoffs since the lockout. Not even Tim Thomas's run met that (.81).
Swayman has been excellent for 3 seasons. If you take his numbers for the last 2 or 3, they will compare favorably against some of the best in the league. He's right up there with Helly for regular season, and right there with Shesty for playoffs. Ullmark has also been great, it wasn't about him being bad or anything... but that Swayman simply took over the role.
If the contract situation is solved in time for him to play 55+ games, he'll be a Vezina finalist.
So we’re getting Swayman?
Monty starting him in the playoffs over Ullmark and his performance in the playoffs should make it very clear.

So the numbers don't look radically different here but I'd say you need to look at that Expected Fenwick Save % (xFSv) on the left. That indicates the Bruins tightened things up when Ullmark was out there (at least at even strength) as opposed to Swayman, which isn't unheard of.
Sure his whole career isn’t a large sample… what is there is excellent. This is Bishop vs Vasi. A great goalie was already there with a younger, better goalie stepping in.Very small sample size for playoffs. 2 rounds of playoffs is like 10ish games? Can you really compare that for Thomas who played double the rounds? He had almost the same raw numbers as Ullmark and when you combine with last year, Ullmark has far superior reg season numbers. And.. Ullmark was worth Korpisalo in a trade.
One game in a platoon situation isn’t the same thing. Swayman had the net for the playoffs and was really good.Ullmark actually also got a game, so it made it much less clear. Even we didnt start annunen lol and georgiev was a big worry. Maybe Monty just wants to give Leafs a chance and play the far inferior goalie?

Not sure how anybody can watch his last 3 seasons and think he’s not an elite young goalie. Especially how he did in these playoffs. He was absurdly good.
Yes.
To Col: Crosby, Swayman
To Pit: Rantanen
To Bos: Georgiev, OO and Denis Parshin

Much, much different situations contractually. Vasi was signed to his bridge a year before his ELC ended (2016)… before he had the starting job at all. They committed to him and paid him already. He was great right away into it though. The problem is he is demanding Vasi's 2nd contract money before winning a vezina. Vasi was on a 3.5MM deal when winning a vezina. When he won over Bishop, he wasnt demanding franchise star money.
If you're still in a platoon in the playoffs then you're not that much better than your platoonee (is that a word?)
I’m not giving up Parshin for that bag of crap return.

Boston refused to give term last year on a reasonable deal out of his ELC. They went all the way through arbitration is a particularly bad negotiation. This is his third contract like Vasi’s it has just happened very differently.
I’m saying Ullmark getting a game after a platoon season, is much different than Annunen getting a game. Not even the same realm.
It’s more between 8-9m and Boston will have to. People couldn’t justify the Vasi bridge deal on the ice, but it was a bet on talent.Every contract situation is different which helped Tampa get an undervalued Vasi, but at the end of the day, Swayman still has to use comparables. Can anyone really justify 10M AVV on a goalie whose only been in a platoon?
Because small sample size and the other goalie was doing just as good. Not sure how anybody can watch his last 3 seasons and think he’s not an elite young goalie. Especially how he did in these playoffs. He was absurdly good.
Aren't you the same guy who was pounding the table for Askarov lolBecause small sample size and the other goalie was doing just as good.
Ullmark is good… not a doubt. He has a Vezina to support that. Swayman played roughly the same amount of games, and was better last year.Because small sample size and the other goalie was doing just as good.
Next season will answer a lot of questions. If Ullmark is still good with Ottawa and Korpisalo sucks while Swayman is good I'll agree.
Being on ELC may have something to do with it.Aren't you the same guy who was pounding the table for Askarov lol
Like I said, the next season will answer a lot of questions. IMO in the last few years the Bruins were making their goalies look better than they were, similar to 2018-2023 era Avs. Waiting for Korpi and Ullmark to prove or disprove this.Ullmark is good… not a doubt. Perhaps Askarov should prove something in the AHL let alone the NHL first. Or does the ELC negate thatBeing on ELC may have something to do with it.

bingoUllmark won the Vezina in 2023 and Swayman has played a total of 132 games in the NHL. In his whole career. They had very similar numbers and my theory is the Bruins style has been very good for their goalies, similar to the best Avs seasons when they made their goalies look much better than they actually were.
I'm curious to see how Ullmark will do behind Ottawa's defense.
