I'm not defending Jesse here, but there's something wrong with this league if there are paper transactions like these that fans take for real, they don't understand that these are moves to satisfy the cap and the CBA.

Like the average fan should not need to know this shit. The NHL is probably the biggest league in terms of fans delving into CBAs and capology of the big-4. It's f***ing sad.

Most people in the know like Masisak and Rawal rightfully pointed out RIGHT AWAY that it was a paper transaction. Fans may not understand, but they did, and that's why they're in the position they're in.

I cut away from the live feed because it just felt so awkward. Jesse was backpedaling, Meghan threw him a bone by mentioning that they could've made this transaction yesterday rather than wait until the last second to give him something to gripe about but he still came off like a guy who just got de-pantsed in front of the entire class.

Both Kovalenko and Ivan are waiver exempt so it's most likely just paper transactions, certainly for Kovalenko if not both.
This is 100% what it is--and they can't send Ritchie down and Wagner needs waivers. Tomorrow, the Avs need to be below the cap ceiling without LTIR to maximize their LTIR pool. Now that they're below the ceiling, they can LTIR Landy and Poolman, and use the LTIR pool to "bring back" Kovalekno and Ivan, who will almost certainly be starting on Wednesday.

Yeah, not for us. The average fan however? All they see is Richie, Kovalenko and Ivan down and are askin WTF
Agreed. They are likely just paper moves. Maybe something is in the the works, but odds are they are back up for opening night.

I don't really like the clickbaity stuff, but the world we live in.

I'm sure if it were up to the league NONE of this would be public information. It shouldn't be up to the league as to what info us fans can process and what they think we can't.

That said, this is why a good beat reporter is important, they don't just funnel information to us, they use their knowledge and analysis and add context. Masisak did just that, Montano did not.

It's going to be interesting to say the least to watch CMac navigate the f***ing cap hell they are in.

Not really sure what they intend to do come Nov with Nuke. And who knows what the f*** is going on with 92. It's kind of disappointing that he didn't remotely participate in camp. And trying to get any info on him, is beyond ridiculous.

Needless to say it's going to be a couple of crazy cap manipulating months. CMac has his work cut out.

It honestly wont be that interesting.

It will get significantly easier after this year. It might not even be that difficult to manage this year. If the cap goes up to $92.5M(And it will go up to at least this much seemingly), that covers all of Mikko's raise and a good chunk of LOCs raise.

Then in the summer of 2026, they have no UFAs to worry about. Where the cap will again likely rise $4-5M. And then by the time Cale is a UFA in July 2027, we're probably looking at a $101-102M cap, and Lehkonen, Mittelstadt, Colton, and Girard are all also UFAs that year. With at least 2/4 of those guys not getting more money then they're making now.

This summer is legitimately the only one left where things will be tough. It will get easier and they'll have more space each year afterwards. The problem then is the age of this team is just going to be too old to compete anyway.

I mean if Lando, Nuke and Lek are coming back later in the year, it's like having a huge deadline splurge with guys we already know have chemistry.

Just need some help on D and or an upgrade on Geo if the Avalanche decide to go in a new direction.

Speaking of Lehky...I was under the impression that he wasn't that far off, then today was the first I heard that he's out until at least the end of Oct. Did he suffer a setback or was I just wrong on my assuming he would be ready sooner?

It is not just you. Based on the practice videos and the guys covering the Avs, they definitely made it seem like he might not be too far off. So maybe this will be a more than 9 game tryout for Ritchie? Man MacKinnon bout to get 27 minutes a night for the first couple months.
