They are trying to negotiate through the media, put the pressure on the Avs.
Not in this case. Nothing that was said by Seravalli and Kyper puts any pressure on the Avs.

All they said was that the Avs were getting calls. If true the Avs are already aware, if not the Avs can dismiss it.

It's more the "Rantanen wants 14+, but Avs don't want to; Avs can't just let him walk! They can't trade him or it'll irk Cale and Nate!"
Meh. Bring in Necas and use the extra cap space on other players and see what Mack and Cale have to say. I don't think this puts pressure on the Avs.

Also if management truly believe that Landy is ever coming back something like a Necas/Rants swap would be their way out of cap hell.

Long term contracts are looked at overall value in mind. When Rantanen camp says they can get 14M from the open market, that translates to 12.25M with the Avs. Because there's no way their camp thinks someone is going to pay Rantanen 16M in the open market. Liut is not that stupid. Seravalli might be.

But how? How is saying this will bring more money to Rantanen? What's the path?

The Avs know if they are getting calls or not.
The tactic doesn't really work with the Avs being a smaller-market team, but going to the media is a normal tactic. You can argue how helpful it actually is, but i'd be surprised if it wasn't the agent 'leaking' this information.

Wouldn't be surprised if someone trades for Puljujarvi now that he's cleared. There's value in having roster and cap flexibility after a player has cleared waivers, especially for cap teams. Also nice to have a depth piece like that stashed in the AHL if he'd agree to it.

Guessing his agent is also gonna be putting pressure on Dubas to find him a new team.

I think trading for Mikko replacement is kinda stupid if his not making 8-9mil for 3-4 years ahead.

Necas is due to sign new contract after next season. So his gonna ask 13mil then. So will you boot him too? All the hassle for 1 extra year of a player who is new to the team.

Also trading Mikko is propably only possible after signing him long term. No-one is trading us for rental Mikko...

Necas will not ask for a double pay raise, he'll probably end up in the 9-10m

People pay big for rentals all the time, rarely is there a sign and trade even though the CBA is set up to encourage them.

It’s only if the player flat out says they’re testing the market does it truly hurt their trade value but that’s pretty rare

Off the top of my head it happened with Tkachuk and Turris but I'm likely forgetting plenty of others.

If Rant wants to go to Carolina and they offer him the money he wants we can sign him for 8 years and trade him there.

Rantanen isn't going anywhere mid-season. If he walks, he walks. He will not be traded.
Yep, thats clear at this point.
I disagree. If anything the Blackwood situation clearly showed us that CMac is trying hard to protect the little assets he has left.

If he knows he can't keep Mikko and the return can help him now (for this season) and for future years I'm confident that he'll pull the trigger.
