From the numbers I've seen it might be possible. Getting retention on Doumolin shouldn't be expensive. With Jones at 7M, I bet it it would be very close running a 21 or 22 man roster.
If they shed the fat they could activate Landeskog now with a 22 man roster. RIAL showed that a few weeks back.

I disagree. IMO this current roster needs Jones more than Dobson.
I just don't see how they could put together six defensemen that expensive, spend the resources necessary to get retention on all of them, AND ice a deep-enough forward corps.
Don't get me wrong, getting a halfway-decent third pairing would be a dream. I just don't see it happening to this extent.
Okay, maybe they could, but not easily, let alone "very" easily.
Jones would be expensive, but it wouldn't empty the clip.
1st + Ritchie + Sam2 and you still have the 2nd or whatever Carolina sent us plus whatever else.
If you keep Mitts and invest fully into the defense I don't see why we wouldn't have the assets to get Jones and a high level bottom pairing vet.
I'd hope they could find a way to keep Malinski, but that's just an example.

"When it comes to Seth Jones, it's all going to come down to how much Chicago are willing to retain. At the full hit, no team will touch that in-season and be interested. If the Hawks can retain $2m-$3m, there will be suitors. This is going to come down to Dallas and Colorado. Both teams really want him. For the Stars, they would need Chicago to retain a good chunk but would be willing to give up a couple of decent pieces. The Avs would need Chicago to retain a bit less and they really see Jones as a guy that could solve a ton of their problems on the backend. This is a team that knows the importance of being deep on the blueline after the guys they rolled out in the '22 Cup win."
Other tidbits:
- Rantanen is still shell-shocked from the trade and needs to snap out of it. He might turn down this $100m+ offer extension from Carolina simply because he can't accept the reality of what has happened. If the Hurricanes move him, Florida would be a front runner and very interested.
- Oilers really like Oleksiak, but have very little left in terms of assets to get a deal done. Jets also like Oleksiak.
- Jets also like Pageau and he'd help out their struggling PK.
- Leafs covet Parayko big time, but the Blues are going to ask for a king's random. Talking 2 1sts and a top prospect.
- Islanders want to find a way to keep Brock Nelson, not willing to listen to offers yet.

If this is true, that means the Avs are willing take on Jones at ~7-7.5 per year for the next five years. They must really like him, the "kid" is already 30...

Manson will get traded next summer so the swap would cost around 3M.

Jones at 7 next year would take some moves to make work, but it’s possible. And that is assuming Landy is able to return. If not, it’s pretty easy to fit. This year it’s possible to add Jones if someone goes on LTIR or they add Wood to a trade.

It really only requires moving Manson or Colton. That’s only IF landeskog comes back.

Neither team has their 1st or 2nd round pick this year, but the Avs do have the Rangers and Carolina's 2nd they can use. So, I guess it comes down to...
Does Chicago covet the better prospects they can get from Dallas while retaining $3M+ for 5 years
Or
Retaining a million or two less than that to send him to Colorado, not getting the same quality of prospects, but getting high 2025 2nd?

IMO, there is absolutely no chance we’d have to pay to move Manson. Right handed physical D are always coveted, regardless of quality. These types of dmen GMs love.
In fact, we’d likely get decent to good assets back.

Dallas has no problems this year.
But apparently they have a tighter cap structure moving forward. Which is why in RIALs post, there was one analyst saying Dallas needs more retention than us.
