J.T. Miller Reportedly Shut Down Blockbuster Deal Before Returning to New York

Don’t know what this is all about, found it while scrolling around.
Wow. And it's from Lavoie so you know it's true. The Avs had a deal in place for JT Miller when they traded Rants but Miller blocked the trade.

Jason Bukala, Sportsnet writer and former Director of Scouting for Florida, was on Real Kyper and Bourne just a few minutes ago.

Avs related:

"When it comes to Seth Jones, it's all going to come down to how much Chicago are willing to retain. At the full hit, no team will touch that in-season and be interested. If the Hawks can retain $2m-$3m, there will be suitors. This is going to come down to Dallas and Colorado. Both teams really want him. For the Stars, they would need Chicago to retain a good chunk but would be willing to give up a couple of decent pieces. The Avs would need Chicago to retain a bit less and they really see Jones as a guy that could solve a ton of their problems on the backend. This is a team that knows the importance of being deep on the blueline after the guys they rolled out in the '22 Cup win."

Other tidbits:

- Rantanen is still shell-shocked from the trade and needs to snap out of it. He might turn down this $100m+ offer extension from Carolina simply because he can't accept the reality of what has happened. If the Hurricanes move him, Florida would be a front runner and very interested.

- Oilers really like Oleksiak, but have very little left in terms of assets to get a deal done. Jets also like Oleksiak.

- Jets also like Pageau and he'd help out their struggling PK.

- Leafs covet Parayko big time, but the Blues are going to ask for a king's random. Talking 2 1sts and a top prospect.

- Islanders want to find a way to keep Brock Nelson, not willing to listen to offers yet.

Exactly what I figured when LeBrun randomly tosses out 6 to 6.5M talking about Dallas mostly, and knowing we can do it at 7M.

I have a hard time believing that CMac would have blundered like that by completing one trade before a second contingent trade was actually agreed by all parties. More likely any Miller trade wouldn't have been contingent on the Rantanen trade.

I think when Rantanen was moved, CMac had few other things cooking. It seems like those have dried up for some reason or another. Hopefully he can get some traction on some moves quickly, because this team is extremely mid as currently constructed. Which is honestly pathetic when you have 29 and 8.

I still find it amusing how night and day everyone has been on Rants since moving him. I'd say a good 80% of this board detested the idea of trading Mikko. What a coup that has been.

And by all accounts, we aren't done if we're being this aggressive. Hilarious JT would've squashed a trade to Colorado tho. Guy must really not like being second fiddle.

Interesting, in the post game last night Keef and Ryker are asked about who their top trade target would be. They joked Rob Blake, threw out some names like Werenski, and then said big D.

Definitely, well we know they're big game hunting at least.

Yeah, it’s doesn’t really make sense the way that Lavoie is insinuating.

He’s making it seem like the Rantanen deal was made BECAUSE they thought the JT Miller trade was done. First, that’s weird. Why would CMac even engage in trade talks before knowing if JTM would even waive for Colorado. Waiving agreement is literally the first step.

Secondly, honestly, both trades alone make sense. Neither one nor the other would’ve been needed for the other trade to make sense

I watched the Lavoie bit in French...he says when they traded Rants they thought they were also getting Miller.

That kinda makes sense, they didn't know Necas alone would make up for Rants' loss of production. It's likely that they thought Miller + Necas is better than Rants + Mitts.

My biggest hang up with this rumor is how secretive Cmac was with the Rants trade talks. I doubt he would have been heavily involved with a counter trade as that would have tipped off the entire league. Especially with Vancouver, who run like an episode of the f***ing Gossip Girls.

This isn't a rumor, the guy has info inside the Avs org. Also it wasn't a secret that Rants was on the block.
