I wasn’t opposed to them trying him out but guess what, he’s not a top 4 Dman. And we don’t have 6 weeks to wait for him to maybe magically discover a level he hasn’t played at since 2018. But , deadline is approaching and he’s not a top 4 Dman. Heck, he hasn’t even been better than Stecher who himself isn’t a top 4 guy. Nice experiment, cut him loose, best of luck and go get a real top 4 Dman.
So cut bait after 8 games?
BTW in those 8 games its clear that his offensive processing is improving and he is at 1/2 point per game.

Since he got here he has been playing on a shit show of a team defensively as well.
A team that gifts uncontested shots from the slot to its opponents, makes poor puck decisions and has little to no predicitablity with the players on the ice.

If you have ever played sports then you know that trying to play on a team where almost nobody is executing their defenisve assignment correctly makes it extremely hard to manage.

Yet you think that a new player (which the team has invested in to get up to NHL speed) is focal point to all that.
Doesnt make a lot of sense.

Really odd.

I'm ok with keeping him around but it may be more as a 6/7 D type of thing. He's had the unfortunate luck of joining the team at pretty much the worst time.

He is better than Stetcher right now. In the time since Klingberg has been here Stetcher has rocked a 23% xGF
He has shown flashes, and isn’t getting top 4 minutes. He has been getting the 5th most minutes for our d.

Wait was that the first game we lost when we had a fight?

Maybe we are cooked?

EDIT: Even worse, we were 8-0-0 on the road all time when Kulak scores.

Dude missed the memo that 2025 started.
It's unfortunate he had a strong start to the season, but he's had a Lucic-in-2017-like mid-season fall off
I don’t even have the energy left over to argue anymore about how he should have been dumped before he hit 10 games last year let alone not re signed for this year.

This guy does absolutely nothing in the lineup this year. He dresses every game but I haven’t noticed him in weeks. Even last year he’d at least get the occasional chance to score but badly screw the play up. So bad this year he’s not even getting that.

I heard in the GYB podcast when they had Jamie McLennan on that ‘Rodrigue is not an NHL goalie’. They were quite clear on that.

With my tin foil hat firmly on..I still believe he only got drafted because who his father was. Our AHL goaltending coach. he is now with the canes. He worked for the oilers for 10 years

Take a look at the bottom half of this chart- particularly, our bottom 6 and Klingberg. The Henrique line was brutal (again) and Klingberg managed to neutralize the Mcdavid line and Kulak almost all by himself.

The bolded didn't seem to have a particularly great game either, according to that chart. He's been booty since coming back from the 4 Nations, and largely mediocre otherwise this season. Sure, according to his standards, but that's exactly it. He needs to be better

Ah well, Skinner isn't much of one either, but I feel like I heard Jamie McLennan has suggested that lately too

Yo when did Skinner hit 230 lbs?

That's f***ing crazy lmao. Especially for a position meant for agility.
I completely agree.
I think this has been a major issue for him. It was even discussed on the boards last season.

His playing weight all along has been 230 lbs.
How can being 230 lbs not be an issue in terms of moving laterally?

If he was to shed 10-15 lbs you would think that he would still have the strength and stamina required to play 40-50 games and his side to side movement would be noticably quicker.

I mean, I'm not going suggest he's out of shape or fat, considering today's culture of men his age, it's probably all muscle.

But he needs to learn that he's a shortstop or 2nd baseman not a 1st baseman or DH. Speed and agility over power. There's a reason there's different builds for different positions.

I am sure it is all muscle but its all about physics.
It takes more time and energy to move 230 lbs in a sideways direction than it would say 215-220 lbs.

It would be interesting to look at other goalies who are 6'4" and see what their playing weight is.
Skinner has to be the heaviest 6'4" goalie on the NHL.

It has been brought up by the Skinner defenders crew here threw a fit about the fat shaming. He's 50 pounds heavier than Bobrovsky, lol.

I think I was in that when he was like 215-220. 230 is far too heavy for a agile position. Time for less weights, leaner protein and more cardio.

That's what I'm saying.

1B and DH's in baseball hit for power. Their whole thing is big muscles provide a harder swing that leads to more hits/HRs, Hence why Giancarlo Stanton weighs 245 at 6'6".

2B and SS can hit for decent power but they also need to be agile enough to make the defensive plays required for their positions. One of the best "big" SS was prime Troy Tulowitzki. 6'3", 205lb,

Interesting fact: Connor Hellebuyck - 6'4" 207lb.

It's a failure of our goaltending coaching that this wasn't addressed earlier either,

Good comparisons.
I also didnt realize the Hellebuyck was the same height and 23 lbs lighter.
Wow.

EDIT: agreed about the goaltending coach.

All three have been junk. I don't think Henrique has broke a sweat all season.
Guy knew he had his chance to bag the 3 mill and be done with it. Sweet talked his way to his retirement contract. Guy looks checked out from game 1. Terrible player

Unfortunately he does. All the press around here tell Skinner he's just f***ing great. I was watching a game where Skinner didn't rob somebody once and yet basically every stop was described as a great save as if it was Ken Dryden stoning Phil Esposito with robberies. With Skinner its just shots fired right into his pads or logo right where he is. Didn't make a great save all night, but 6 pucks got by him. What a batting average. If Florida aren't missing net, flubbing shot or blowing a chance it was going in almost everytime they got a good shot off.
it wasn't until the last week where the media shows and podcasters have finally started to turn on Skinner. Two years of him getting bootlicked. Every game saying it was our piss poor defense's fault (even though we barely gave up any high danger chances). And now he's got some "positive mentality" coaching for his media avails where he's smiling and laughing and never taking any accountability. What a bum

Stu needs to go. End of discussion. And the longer Bowman waits, the worse it will become. EDM is losing a lot of points right now and honestly could even miss the playoffs entirely if this doesn't turn around fast.
