That's simply not the story we have heard.Why did the Avs have any reason to worry? Nichushkin had done nothing until that point to show the Avs he was a risky player who would fail drug tests and end up in the PA program. He played the SCF with a broken foot the final couple of games.
Nobody had a clue he would become this big of a risk.
We've heard he was known to have liked the powder back in his Dallas days.
I think anyone who believes the Avs were unaware of his useage of drugs prior to signing his deal are intentionally putting their heads in the sand and trying to live on some distinction between being caught by the NHL during a piss test, and being known to be f***ed up by your own team.
The Avs simply thought they could control it better than they have.
