@a mangy Meowth Dobson and Jones are very different players. As others have said, Dobson is more in the line of Makar, albeit nowhere close of course, as an offensive defenseman. Dobson has struggled defensively and can't be trusted for big assignments.

The appeal of Jones is that he's an absolutely elite PKer that would take Cale off PK1 duty and perhaps off PK altogether with Manson there. We know Bednar would still use Cale on PK because Bednar will do Bednar things, but the option of him not playing PK is more realistic with Jones.

The cost of Dobson will also be much higher than the cost of Jones, in my opinion. Then you have to deal with him as an RFA.

With Jones, you'd be getting a mature player better suited to what we are looking for, but still bringing the qualities Bednar wants in his D with the skating, transition, and passing ability on the breakouts.

Dobson would be nice but Jones is more what we need behind Makar and where we are in our window. He is much better defensively than Dobson. That's what we need to reduce Makar's minutes especially his PK minutes.

I'm well aware - I'm just a big Dobson fan and I think he's better defensively than he's getting credit for in here. And I just think he's a significantly better player than Jones, regardless of different strengths.

This was really never meant to be a serious proposal. If you saw that my offer was Colton + Gulyayev + pick, you'd probably agree that offer would get laughed out of the building - it's a lowball.

Further, it would require some serious cap maneuvering to figure out his next deal + jettison Manson somehow + also figure out the 2C situation with an even further diminished cupboard of assets to use on it.

I haven't watched Pulock in a while, so I'm not sure he has the skating to keep up with this team. And of course he is injured (but so is Dobson). But I think Pulock would be a much more reasonable target, and would be a better fit as far as finding a PK minute eating RHD.

Pulock is an injury prone player that has only played over 68 games twice in a seven year career. There’s always something with him.

Considering how we do with injuries, he’d be completely dead on our team.

Yeah so why not get an actual 1D for the 2nd pair? Sounds even better to me. Though, I'm guessing Dobson probably wants more like 9M+ on his next deal. In this fantasy of mine, we'd somehow bridge him as an RFA and perhaps walk him to UFA so we can fit him in

I'm just really not jazzed about paying Jones, or any other player really, anywhere near 7.5M long term for 2nd pair and PK work.

Can’t emphasize this enough. Jones fits far better for what we’re missing than what Dobson would.

Broken record for me, but to me, Jones is quite literally the perfect style player that we need. It’s just a matter of whethera trade can be feasibly accomplished.
