Wood at 2.5 could be worse because 2.5 in the grand scheme of things isn’t a huge number, but 1) his term is a major problem and 2) he’s one of way too many guys making just a little bit more than they’re worth.
Wood at 2.5 is bad value for money, Colton last year was neutral value but this year is negative value. Kylington is bad value. Mitts, I don’t really know yet. But is currently bad value. That right there is 9.05mil of cap space being used horribly. Manson’s also been pretty erratic in his play this year and probably shouldn’t be in the top 4. So make than 13mil of poorly utilized cap space.
Than you have Middleton, Malinski, CDH taking up another 2mil of cap space on guys who are our 5-6dmen who shouldn’t be more than 7/8’s at the absolute best.
It’s death by 1000 cuts. The Wood contract isn’t horrible compared to some other deals out there. But add in to a bunch of other players not being utilized properly and living up to their contracts the team is far more locked into their situation than they could be.
Which granted a lot of this all comes back to drafting as well. Yes they’ve drafted well enough to use some guys as trade shit to improve the team, but even having one or two more LOC type guys would make a world of difference for this team.
