Mittelstadt or replacement - Hard to say, let's say 7M for a good one. (+1.25M)
Lehkonen - Hard to say, let's say 8M. (+3.5M)
Colton - Let him walk, replace by a 1M guy. (-3M)
Makar - What's the max? Uhh let's say 20M I have no idea. (+11M)
Girard or replacement - For a good third best D maybe 7M. (+2M)
Middleton or replacement - 1M
Now total kinda depends on how much we spent the previous year, but let's assume we had to spend to the cap:
118.75M / 113.5M
Leaving us 5.25M over the cap. If Necas and Manson cost as much as I guessed, then we would be just under the cap. Now, if Landeskog doesn't play, then we have 7M extra each year, and we probably wouldn't spend 7M on a 3rd line winger. If Landeskog does play, we can make space by not re-signing either Drouin or Lehkonen. Other than that we do need to pay up for top six forwards and top four defenders to be competitive. Starter goalie is locked in through all this.
Any of our own prospects that perform well could reduce our cap total by replacing someone more expensive from the roster, for example if Richie (or even Parssinen) takes over the 2C role.

I think the estimations are off. Parsinnen is going to cost more than 1M. And clearly we need to spend more money on the 3rd pairing. At the same time, the Avs would likely shed Colton’s 4M and replace with Ritchie and save 3+M. Shedding Wood would also save an additional 1.5M. That would give the Avs close to 5M to get a more supportive 3rd pairing.

The weird reason being that his first year he was still RFA, under 27 years old. They can't have trade protection.

No, I mean it's weird that only year 2 is full NTC but years 3 and 4 move to a modified NTC.
I understand why year 1 doesn't have it.

Interesting timing of this cap news. You have to think they have some idea.
1. Necas' contract might not look too different than Rants at the end of the day
2. Impacts TD negotiations happening right now - long term deals just skyrocketed in value
3. That Seth Jones full deal might not look so bad

I mean it's not that unusual. Players usually want to have that maximum protection at first, and clubs might give it to them in exchange for AAV. There are ofcourse some teams that hand out NMCs and NTCs like candy, but the Avs are not one of those teams. MacKinnon is the only player with a full NMC throughout his contract. Not even Landeskog has a full NMC, starting next season he has a 12 team no-trade list.
On a sidenote, those Landeskog clauses are displayed interestingly in Puckpedia and CapWages. He has a NMC and a modified NTC starting next season. I guess that means the Avs can't waive him, but can still trade him to 20 other teams. I didn't even know you could do that, I thought you can just have a NMC that takes away all the trade options. Maybe it's a gentlemans agreement or something?
Another funny note, Puckpedia has an anchor as their NMC symbol. Yeah, some deals really are boat anchors...
Avs are still going to be in a crunch next season. Not as bad as we thought a few months ago, but still.
