I'd want a Tkachuk/Huberdeau 2.0 where Rantanen is the Huberdeau of the trade.

That won’t happen during the season with Mikko a few months away from UFA.

We need to be realistic.

For the people who want to trade Mikko, brace yourselves for the usual UFA package… middle 6 roster forward, prospect, 1st round pick.

So I've been thinking about the Landy situation...if he does come back before the playoffs then what do we do? Toews is no longer injured so the LTIR theory went out the window. There's the possibility of Nuke never coming back but it doesn't look like it's the case at this point.

That leads us, again, to a Rantanen trade before the deadline.

What would make the most sense here is trading him for a pending UFA/RFA that makes 3M or less right now but is due for a big raise next year or later (because he's that good). This way we could have him + Landy this year and then use Rants' cap hit to re-up him later.

Is there such player out there?
Marchenko

If rants is just after the bag and doesn’t care where he signs I hope we get him +

Seriously I'm certainly not trading him at rental price. You let the other team negotiate the 8 year deal before the trade.

If he's gonna be a rental might as well keep him as our rental and order Landy to stay injured until the playoffs.

I'm not quite hearing the same as others. It sounds more speculative than anything.

I think anyone who says the Avs will absolutly trade Rantanen or will absolutely not trade Rantanen is going too far out on a limb.

I don't think anyone absolutely knows how this is gonna play out. Again, I want to emphasize I think this is an intentional leak to benefit negotiations, but this doesn't sound like pure speculation to me.

He's drawing a contrast between what Florida's plans with Sam Bennett are and what the Avs plans are with Mikko. He's speaking too matter of factly about Colorado here for it to be just spitballing.

"Like a guy like Sam Bennett, I don't believe Sam Bennett is gonna be moved, even if he doesn't have a contract by the deadline, you know what I mean? But there are some teams, like a Colorado Avalanche, who are like no, if we can't have an extension with you, we're gonna move you, even if we're a Stanley Cup team. But they need asset in return too, so we'll see how it's gonna turn out."

English isn't my native language but I'm having a hard time to figure out how someone can read that and think "spitballing".

CMac isn’t Sakic so we shouldn’t be surprised if his decisions deviate from past history. But I very much doubt CMac would move Rantanen except for value. Zibs? Absolutely not.

I do find the timing interesting, with Renaud inserting Zib into the conversation, and the Avs and Rags playing today. Upping the pressure, and media commentary, about a potential Mikko for Zib trade.

Which was probably the intention. Wonder if Mikko takes any questions before/after the game?

Necas+Morrow
Batherson+yakemchuk

The Ottawa one doesn't really work if Mikko agrees to an extension probably though.

Mikko has a 9 team NTC and I assure you all of the Canadian teams are on the list.

Why would Carolina make this trade for 3 months of Rantanen?

That show seems to push NYR a lot.

I don't think anyone gives up a good NHL player under contract for just 3 months of Mikko.

I think anyone giving up the required return for Mikko, probably intends on making a strong push to re-sign him. Even if they don't have a deal in place at the time of the trade.

Carolina is a team I can see willing to gamble and take that risk. Perhaps the Rangers too. They're in throw all the cards up in the air and see what happens mode. Might be willing to get out of Zib's contract as it is, and we've heard the Avs were interested in Zib in the past.

That's a last resort though if anything. Plan A by far is to pressure Mikko into signing.

Carolina needs to make room for that 8x12.5
Necas will always be my #1 return
Yeah Ottawa is more just wishful thinking

Orlov (UFA next summer) and Necas (now an AV) take care of that.

I don’t think Rantanen would sign with Carolina.

Just a hunch.
You don't think he wants to play with Aho? Historically it's a friendly place for Finns.

Yeah, he's using the Avs with Mikko, as a counterpoint to Florida with Bennett, who he doesn't think will move as a pending UFA.

Again though, I think this is likely an intentional leak for posturing and leverage purposes.
Is Bennett a C? Do a straight trade, Moose can play with Barkov and we get a 2C, then trade Mitts for D + prospects.

Moose will never reach 100 points if he's not playing with MacK and Makar. Never.

Landy is cooked, don't need to worry about him coming back during the season.

As for Rantanen, he'll most likely walk as an UFA. We might start speculating about what UFA forward we are going to overpay to "replace" him.

This season: 799 minutes with, 189 minutes without
23-24: 1,561 minutes with, 270 minutes without
22-23: 1,146 minutes with, 404 minutes without
21-22: 1,061 minutes with, 168 minutes without
20-21: 789 minutes with, 89 minutes without
19-20: 666 minutes with, 129 minutes without
18-19: 1,348 minutes with, 194 minutes without
17-18: 1,266 minutes with, 146 minutes without
16-17: 929 minutes with, 424 minutes without

Been practically attached at the hip since 17-18.
Thanks for posting this. It's pretty much what I figured.

It's not surprising why the Avs are hesitant to give #96 a big giant raise on the $9.25M he's already making especially when you consider :

In the 44 games Rantanen has played this season and out of his 60 total points
- 51 of those 60 points have happened with MacKinnon on the ice
- out of the NINE points that happened when #29 was on the bench, there were 2 empty net goals by Rants.
So that's a total of 7 points this season when he's been on the 2nd line/without Mack. You can point to Mitts having a really bad couple of months but if you're going to be paying a guy 10-11-12M per year, he pretty much HAS to be a play driver.

Yup. Rantanen has shown in the past that he can carry a whole team on his shoulders, he absolutely can do that if he wants to.

But this season and the last he feels extra lazy for most of the games, picking up easy points. When he isn't with second best C in the world, PP (his work here has been horrible this season) or shooting at the empty net.. he isn't doing much positive. It's difficult to justify giving him MacK money. The most frustrating player to watch.

what's the list of FA's this summer ?
