Rumor: 2024-2025 Trade Rumors and Free Agency Talk | Part Deux

Which seems likely anyway.

How? He just traveled with the team, and is skating more and more.

I think its going to become harder and harder to keep him off until the playoffs.

For EP (or Miller) Mitts and Manson would have to go the other way (which makes sense for Vancouver because they want a C and a D).

Then we'd have to replace Manson for a cheaper guy.

Manson tells you to go f*** yourself if you try to send him to Vancouver lol.

Landy skated a few drills at a few practices, but I don’t think he was ever a full participant. Yea it’s progress, but I don’t think he is anywhere close yet.

To me it looks quite clear they only consider him for the playoffs, meaning they have the cap space to burn if needed.

Probably the only way to go if you want to build this into a contender as well. Current Landy isn't enough to push this team to a next level.

What's a realistic Crosby package now? What would the Pens want?
I still believe that a trade to the Avs makes all the sense in the world IF he wants to move. As I already mentioned, it makes sense that they'd have an agreement in place to trade Crosby back to Pittsburgh for the last year of his contract so he can finish his career as a Penguin. He'd essentially become an Avs 'Ray Bourque' in terms of duration with the team, giving them two runs at the Cup.

In my opinion, a package would probably include :

Mittelstadt
Gulayayev
2nd round pick

Pens fans on here are extremely adamant that it (Crosby) will not happen. Weekes has also gotten a bit of a rep as a tease lately. We'll seen
There's only ONE person that can make it happen and that guy is Crosby himself. So unless those fans have a direct link to his brain, they don't know shit.

IF he wants to move then things can go in motion...who knows, maybe it already has?

He can sign a one day contract or whatever. If he's playing a full year and he does that he is contending.

It just doesn't make sense to me, though. Bourque was starving for a cup. Crosby has 3. His legacy is Pittsburgh, not chasing a 4th cup.

I do not think there's a chance he ever considers asking out.

Even then, the 4th line can play 10. The top line should play MAX 21 minutes. Not a second more.

There is SO much data to back up not running top stars into the ground and Bednar seems to shun all of it.
There does seem to be a disconnect with coach and GM at the moment. CMac probably traded Rantanen so that Bednar was forced to switch things up and spread out the minutes and Bennett switch up the PP 😅

Brock Nelson would be the most logical choice IMO. While we lost a leadership personality as part of this deal, I'm not sure Miller is the right one to commit to for so long. Nelson is a shooter, a UFA, a C, a left hand shot. Not sure his one-timer but maybe he's a guy that plays on the left side.

Nelson would cost futures only, and still allow a Mitts-Jones type of deal. Also an option to keep Mitts and move Parsinnen in the deal, and get retention on Nelson and a bottom pairing D. Lots of options.

On another note, I wouldn't mind seeing Parssinen tried in Mikko's trigger spot on the PP. Give the kid a chance to show what he's got and adds another big body retriever.

If you are heading to NYI, bring Romanov with him so he can piss Bednar off with a big hit and get benched.

Those 1 day contract are so lame. They don't do shit.

The idea with trading him back is that he gets to spend the last year before his retirement in front of the hometown fans and gets to do his last 'tour' around the league as a Penguin.

The question in that scenario, what do we do for a 2C after that? Nelson is a UFA this summer and that could leave us with nothing for next season unless the Avs think Ritchie can make that step in October

It's a fair question, that's why I think the keeping Mitts route is probably the better option. Means we just have enough space for a bottom pair D

EDIT: Geno would be my other option. He's a bit more of a gamble though but would be a stop-gap for Ritchie if they are sold on him taking that spot (I'm not, I'd like to see him moved in a 2C deal)

I predict Landy plays just before the deadline for like 1-3 games. This gives him at least a little taste of NHL hockey before playoffs.

He then goes back to LTIR because of “swelling”. I know people will talk about how the NHL monitors this shit but the guy took 3 years off and has a knee full of plastic. I’m sure they can come up with something which will give them the benefit of the doubt. Avs conveniently utilize his cap space at the deadline.

He skates and does his rehab thing on the side down the stretch and then comes back in for the playoffs.

To push this prediction even further I bet he can’t continue after a handful of playoff games.

Too bad that players who have signed new deals that haven't kicked in yet aren't given the opportunity to be a rental. Like Crosby could come to Colorado for this run but when he new deal kicks in on July 1st he'd revert back to being a Penguin since he signed that deal with them.

I knew as soon as I typed Ray Bourque that someone would read too fast and misunderstand.

I said in terms of duration. Two cup runs.

But you're right if he doesn't want to move, he won't.

And not make the playoffs? Go through the grind of an NHL season?

I'm not buying it

100% agree with everything.

Imagine:

It's July, 2026.

Mikko Rantanen is playing for the Dallas Stars, Gabriel Landeskog has already announced that he's never coming back and will finish his contract on LTIR.

Martin Necas has underwhelmed to the tune of 50 points but is being courted like he's Andre Burakovsky, Casey Mittelstadt has literally morphed into Ryan Johansen and Cale Makar has told the Avs he wants nothing to do with them and will be signing a 7 year, 112 million dollar contract with the Calgary Flames.

Good times ahead.

He's not making the playoffs now is he?

The trade deadline hasn't passed yet has it?

Apparently Pettersson was the one going to the Canes before they pivoted to Mikko. Friedman mentions the Sabres as a team to watch for EP now.

Poor guy might go from having to deal with that scrub JT to possibly being sent to Buffalo.
