Alright, folks. I'm going golfing for 3 days then heading on a 5 day drunken fishing trip to hunt the elusive 40 pound lake trout (My record is 38.2 pounds) - Hopefully the team looks different when I'm back.

@NeelyDan you're in charge, bud. Water the plants.
Sounds like a blast! Only one I've ever caught that was that large was a northern pike... So much fun... Have a great time!

Because that has nothing to do with the question I posed and is incredibly off topic.

I asked how many goalies with a career high of 34 starts received $5m+ and/or a NMC.

If you are having trouble distinguishing between what I’m saying and what you are saying then idk how to help you besides telling you to ask someone near you to help you better understand
Is it your opinion that the Ullmark contract is a bad one?

Marshy has given you a list of every goaltender worth their salt. And every one of them had some kind of trade protection.

Is your problem with the money he was given? The trade protection? Both? Neither?

This guy is good - was drafted by Caps third round never made NHL but good takes- I agree with him lol

Love the Canadian accent
I don’t get his thinking at all.

He’d give up the 7th overall for a top6 forward? Maybe for a top4 D and no way for a goalie. In terms of abundance/easy to acquire it should be the opposite. In terms of impact on your season it should be the opposite. Who has more impact on a hockey game than a goalie?

I also don’t get the groupthink dogma that people keep burping out regarding goalie returns. There are plenty of examples of goalies returning 1st round picks. Sweeney cited a goalie retunring a 9th overall pick. Two goalies were traded this week for 1st’s, yet “historically goalies don’t blah blah I didn’t do the research but everyone says it so I am too…”

Sorry if this has been discussed or if similar threads have been made. I just had a dire need to post my opinion on this and am a long time member of these forums and lurker of these forums so thank you for the oppurtunity.

To me you have to trade Ullmark. If you don't trade him you can potentially lose him for nothing when he becomes a free agent. We just saw what Calgary got for Markstrom. A former 1st round draft pick defenseman and a 1st round pick. You can get the same thing if not better for Ullmark. I'm not sure if Markstrom ever won a Vezina but Ullmark did.

I know it sounds corny but you can only win with one goalie in the net. You can't play both at the same time. Yes you want a reputable backup but look at St Louis in 2019. Binnington came in I believe as a rookie, so St Louis didn't know exactly what they were going to expect from Binnington but he helped them win a cup against us. It's clear that Swayman is our guy. He's younger, more upside and has a decent contract for now. There is no point having a 4 or 5 million dollar backup goalie(Ullmark). Sign Swayman long term and get a cheap backup. It will free up cap space and we might even be pleasantly surprised by our backup (whoever that will be)

This is why these teams stay irrelevant in my view. Goalies get you into the playoffs, What if Linus can get them in the playoffs for the next 5 years, he's that good.

I hope Donny stands firm with Ottawa, especially since we can be fighting them for playoff positioning if Linus goes there.

When he was given the contract years ago, yes.

I also believe this team would have been much better off the last three years if they had a $5m everyday player instead of Ullmark. Especially in the playoffs.

I've always liked Simpson since he returned to Ottawa, he used to be on the local sports radio station until he unfortunately got laid off along with many others. He is not afraid to express his opinion and most importantly has a good sense of humor.

The bruins have until March 2025 trade deadline to move Ullmark. For our sanity hopefully within next 24 hours or less.

Give me Kleven and 25

Ridly Greig and 25

Greig’s path has continued to climb upwards since he started in the WHL and that trajectory is a big reason why he’s going to be a graduate from this list in short order. The forward wrapped up a strong WHL career in 2021-22 as the captain of the Brandon Wheat Kings, putting up 63 points in only 39 games, while also helping Canada to a gold medal at the World Juniors. He’s practically the epitome of the “Pesky Sens'' as a hard-fought, gritty player who is absolutely fearless, while playing a highly competitive brand of hockey. At the same time, he brings an impressive shot, and hands that look softer and softer every time he hits the ice. Greig is already playing in the NHL after starting last season with a strong showing in the AHL and it seems that he’ll there stick as a middle-six asset and fan favorite.

Donny is not going to let Ottawa dictate Linus value. We will just keep him and own the league in goaltending again while they finish out of the playoffs with all their toys.

I do hope Sweeney sticks to his guns as to whatever exactly he wants in return for Ullmark. Don't compromise, well not much anyway. Keeping Linus is of course going to make juggling the salary cap more difficult in the short-term, but I'd rather handle that and then look to deal him high at the deadline when teams get more desperate (if still suitable to do so) than settle for a poor return now.

I agree. Swayman and Ullmark were the reason we could sustain losing two top6 centers and still be one of the best teams in the league. Other teams give you 30 games (or more) of mediocre goaltending. The Bruins do not.

Yep, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them sign a 'tweener to compete for the job. The Bruins don't give jobs away to anyone.
